Do Texans apply for out of state tags?

Since Texas hunting is hugely private.
Do Texans generally apply for out of state public hunts?
I personally apply for game animals not readily available in Texas.
My choices are New Mexico elk, New Mexico mule deer and bighorn sheep.
Kentucky elk.
Nevada big horn sheep and elk.
Colorado deer and elk points only.
Mostly a points gathering gig, but I get lucky every once in a while.
Just wondering how much Texans contribute to other states game & fish dept.
This is the first thread I've ever started so go easy on me guys ! Thanks...

Texans draw 99% of all out of state tags and buy all the landowner tags. :)

I would assume Texans are a significant portion of NR applicants for a lot of states. California is probably a good amount too

I apply NM (mule deer/antelope) and same for Utah. This year I did not apply for Utah. I have drawn mule deer or antelope last 5 years in NM (3 mule deer/1 antelope) and drew Utah last 3 years (cow elk, 2 mule deer, 1 LE antelope). Originally from NM so I am partial to hunting there. Have done a lot of high fence exotic hunts here in Texas, but solo public hunts are far and away the most enjoyable to me.

I just read on the N.M. Forum a guy drew a 2020 bighorn sheep tag and he just drew one in 2016 !!
Dang he needs a couple lotto tickets and he'd be set for life !
That's what I like about N.M. Draw you just never know !

Texas is the worst unless you’re in oil and all that it implies... I apply NM every year, and I went with a OTC Elk in Idaho but re thinking it since everyone and their mother is asking about that unit. I grew up in NM and served in the NMARNG for the last two years so I have residency there.

Been playing the out-of-state hunt drawing game for about 30+ years and sometimes, just sometimes, I get lucky and pull a great tag somewhere out West. This was my lucky year and drew a Shiras Moose tag in Montana, home of the giants! Texas hunt drawing booklet should be out soon, too!

I apply for AZ, UT, NM, CO, NV, WY...and TX. I have drawn at least one tag in each state.

I have hunts in UT, WY and CO so far this year. However the UT is a youth tag for my son. The other two are deer.

When i hunt around pagosa i hardly ever see any texas plates. Strange seeing as how over 50% of homes there are owned by texans. Im sure these homeowners only hunt otc and dont apply for draw tags

Guardrail, that would be me lol! Having a pure draw with no points gives everyone an opportunity to get a tag. I drew a desert bighorn tag on the San Andres NWR/White Sands Missile Range in 2016 my 3rd year applying. I drew a Rocky Mountain bighorn tag in the Rio Grande gorge by Taos and my hunt starts on August 10th. There's been a few years I can't draw a darn cow elk tag which has been a slam dunk in years past, so us residents have it pretty tough as well. Best of luck to everyone this year! Oh yeah, I'm originally from Woodville over north of Beaumont.

Colorado seems to be the playground of the Texans. Seems like they compete with Utah to be the number one out of state plate during hunting season.

Good luck philthy, August 10th is really soon, let us know how you do on the rocky .

Well, it took all of 4 hours to become a retired sheep hunter in NM! A beat up old dude with a beautiful grey haired face! 108 yards.

You killing me !! Lucky draw but an accomplished hunter good on you Philthy !! I would share a campfire with you anytime just to listen to the sheep hunt stories !! ;)

as a texan, i like most have to lease private property and have some free access to hunt whitetails. drawn a few of the texas public hunts but the odds on most are comparable to that of a sheep tag in a western state. i too put in for out of state hunts, KS, NM, MT, WY and hunted Minnesota black bear once, a public draw tag as well.
