Hi all:
I got a custom rifle last fall that the builder had worked up a very accurate load that uses RL17. Anyone have any ideas where I can get a couple of pounds of RL17? I've had it on backorder several places and they finally cancelled my orders.

I don’t know where you’re at but mail order probably isn’t going to be the way to go right now.

I buy most of my stuff in Reno. But 6 weeks ago Cabelas, Scheels, Sportsmans had 0 pistol powder. But a small, over priced gun store on Kietzke Ln had everything I needed, including bullets.

so try those smaller dealers if you have any locally.

I guess there hasn’t been a run on black powder, yet.

I had no problem ordering BH 209 and it was available in all 4 places I checked prices on.

I paid 39.99 plus tax for a pound of it at my local store, where most other powders are usually 29.99. Think I got reamed and wont be using any more of it. Showed pressure signs in my 300RSAUM, but got good velocity

There are better powders available with similar burn rates, 17 is pretty temp sensitive. RL16, RL23, H4350, Staball 6.5 are all better powders IMO.

I hate to break this to you...but any powder can cause over pressure.....
Filled it up to the neck and heard a little crunch when I seated the bullet, saw too much pressure on my primers. Must be that chitty —————— powder ??

What I meant was i saw pressure signs at well less than max loads according to loading manuals, where I have never seen pressure signs with this caliber using any other powders.

I agree, isn't the ideal powder. I don't have a lot of time right now to work up a new load and this one shoots so accurately
