Colorado Elk

My dad turns (old) this year and would like to hunt elk next year in Colorado. He can't get around very good and would be happy to shoot any bull with antlers. I was wondering if Unit 49 or Unit 501 are areas that would work for him. Do roads get you places to hunt or do you need to hike a bunch to get anywhere.

Thanks in advance

Would a DIY private land hunt possibly work into your budget? Some decent options for $2-3000. Might be worth it even if you can't hunt, but just be the "guide"

That might be something to look at. He would be happy as could be to shoot any legal bull so first choice would be a free diy. It would be hard to swallow that much money when he pulls the trigger on the first spike he sees ? .

Most places do not allow shooting spikes. Must be 4 points or better :)

These guys have pretty good reviews.

Those 4th season hunts can be pretty good, as there’s usually not a lot of people running around and there’s usually some ok bulls still alive.

If your dad has limitations that would prevent his hiking much from the truck, and you are not local or familiar with any area I heartily recommend that you take the advice and book a private land hunt with somebody who understands what you need and want. Having some help getting on the elk will enable your dad to fulfill his wish, or come close, rather than get overwhelmed and discouraged. Public land bulls are not likely to be hanging out near the road, at least not often and not ever predictably.

Thanks all for the advice
