I have had a Stainless Green Mountain 45 cal LRH barrel sitting in my safe for a long time waiting for me to do something with it.

I picked up a donor TC Renegade. I installed a Lee Shavers mid range Sole sight with a Hadley eye cup with a Lee Shavers Ferriss front sight. I think I am ready to shoot it.

Really good looking rifle and set up. For target shooting in good light, you should be fine with that peep, but wonder if you may need a larger appeture peep for hunting in low light conditions.

That peep is a Hadley. It is adjustable peep. It has several holes and you can adjust to whatever makes you see best.

Oh wow. I see that now. Didn’t know that even existed. Cool
By rotating the peep it brings the sight picture into focus. I have never looked through one before.
It's like looking through the machine at the eye dr. Which is In focus #1 or #2.
It's pretty cool.

Ron’s is just a “little fry” This is a HAWKEN :) Rice Barrels, 4140 Chromoly “Match Grade” 1-24 Twist .50 Cal

Thanks for the barrel info. I will have to look up Rice barrels. Wanted a .45 with 1:16 or 1:18 for my Hawkins a few years ago and just my luck GM had quit making them.

I was fortunate that Ron Gifted me that GM 1:18 Twist .45 Cal Barrel in that 825 Yard Video, It is my understanding that GM made very few of those, I know a few guy’s that were really tight in the GM Barrel Loop back in the Day, They kick themselves for not getting one of these when they had the Chance. This one shoots STELLAR, I shoot both Grease Groove and Paper Patch through it, Both Custom Elliptical design Bullets/Molds

You WON’T go wrong with a Rice Barrel, I have 2 of them now, This 1-24 Twist .50, and a 1:20 Twist .45, I have punched NUMEROUS Bug Hole Groups with my .45, and with a WIDE array of Bullets. These
4140 Chromoly “Match Grade“ Barrels are Top Shelf (y)

Your info on those sights was spot on. I'm glad I went with the medium range and Ferriss front sight.

Your setup is perfect Ron, It looks good as well (y) like i was saying when we were talking about this setup, I was “breaking new ground“ I didn’t know exactly what i needed? I knew what i wanted to do, But wasn’t sure how to get there? Even Lee Shaver himself didn’t know what to advise me? He had never setup a Hawken/Renegade like this, and wasn’t sure how to help me? I ended up going with the Long Range Soule (Super Grade) Like i was telling ya, Now that i know what i do, I wish i had went with the Mid Range Sight, It would have been PLENTY of sight to get me to 1,000 Yards. Simple fact is, there comes a yardage point where our Eyesight says NO WAY Jose, 1,000 Yards is a LOOOOOOOOOOONG Way out there with the Naked eye, Shooting open sights.

I am interested to see how well the 11MM Bullet does at 5, 6, 7, 800 Hundred yards? According to the Twist calculators it lines up REALLY Good for the 1:30 Twist, Better than the 425 Grain Elliptical Sleek bullet i showed you (offered you to try) They are 1.2” long, 425 Grains, .443 Diameter. You are welcome to try these, i will gladly send you some down if you would like to try them? They are a much better design Bullet for long Range than the 11MM, But according to the Twist Calculator they are not ideal in the 1:30 Twist

I would like to try them if you can harden them a bit.

You can’t beat this 1-20 Alloy for SERIOUS Target work, There is GOOD reason that most all World level, and SERIOUS competitors use it, It WINS (y) These long Sleek nose Bullets do their Best cast of an Alloy like this 1-20, These types of bullets can “Nose Slump” if Cast of softer Lead. I get this Stamp Certified 1-20 Alloy from BACO, it’s DARN GOOD stuff. Exact Same stuff i used above in the 825 Yard Video

For Hunting, I wouldn't use this 1-20 Alloy, It’s to hard to get good expansion at our Muzzleloader Velocities. That said, Our World Champion (Dave Gullo) uses and Swears by 1-20 Alloy for Target & Hunting

50 of them Headed your way Ron. 25 Patched with Strathmore 300 Series paper, They finish at .449, and 25 for you to patch however you like. I also put in 25 of my Home Cut 1/8“ thick Wool Felt Wads (12MM, .472 Diameter)

They drop from my mold at .443, i ran these through my .442 Sizer

With this Strathmore 300 Series Tracing paper they finish at .449, These should load REALLY nice in your Rifle

Thanks, what is the info on the mould?

It is a BACO Mold (Buffalo Arms Co.) This is a design that i came up with and talked Dave in to allowing Jim to Cut it for me (BACO Don’t make “Custom“ Molds) It is in their Catalog now (y) Due to it having a Cupped Base it is a Nose Pour Mold. I have a Love/Hate Relationship with it, LOVE the Bullet it Casts, HATE Casting with the Mold (or use to anyway) I have finally gotten Good/Efficient with it, But It is a TOUGH Mold to Master. I need to Run it back over to BACO and have Jim tinker with it, Their is about a 1/16” of play in the Piece that creates the Cupped Base, That is giving me fits with my Weights, I cast 100 Bullets and get weights that vary 4-5 Grains, It took me awhile to figure out what was Happening? Anyway, I figured it out, and came up with a Casting Routine that Works well, But it will be a MUCH better deal when Jim Fixes it.

BACO Bullet pics DON’T always Represent the Mold

Here is the Mold

It casts a very nice bullet, one of my Favorite PP 45s

Right here is the KEY to success, SHARP, perfectly filled out Bases. The Base is what Steers the Bullet, A guy wants to protect these Bases at ALL costs

Here you can see how it attaches, And operates. Like a regular Mold, Once you get a Rythm down you can Crank out Bullets, But this thing would DESTROY a Beginning Caster :)

Wow that hole conversation was very informative. From making yourbullets to dialing in long Range, dialing in your peep. You learn something everyday. Thanks

I decided to do a quick test group with these this morning before sending them Ron, I shot them in my Stainless GM LRH (Twin to your Barrel) My Powder charge was 80 Grains by Weight of Swiss 2F, With my 1/8” 12MM Cut Wool Felt OP Wads

I Shot here this morning, This was a Different Day, Different Rifle, Just showing the 60 Yard Target

The Video of the Group Shot this Morning

Again, Target was 60 Yards. 3 Shot Group measures .900 outside edge to outside edge, minus the .442 Bullet Diameter, this Group measures out at .458, I hope they Shoot as well for you as they do me Ron, This is a DARN GOOD Bullet, one of my Favorites (y)
