Chambering problem?

Ok all you gun gurus! I have a Browning Medallion in .243 WSSM that since new has a very hard time chambering a round. Seems the insertion angle is way to steep and hits the top hard. You can slam it in but it damages the tip of the bullet pretty bad. We have reloaded some and set the bullet a little deeper in the case and that helped some but it’s not right. This gun has done this since new. I replaced the magazine but that didn’t help. That being said both of my daughters have killed many elk and deer with it so I would like to keep it!
Any ideas?

wssm's are the shortest and fattest of the bunch.......inherently poor design to feed properly...

Pesco in washington state can fix it......uh...make it much better.

I will look up exact name and number later today for you

This is one of the reasons the WSSM cartridges never caught on IMO. Not a good design from the get go.

Give Kevin Weaver a call in Peyton, Colorado. He is a great custom rifle builder and does smithing as well! Just Google Weaver Rifles and his contact info will show up!
I had a similar problem with a new Kimber hunter pro octane 6.5! Good luck!

Will do. Thanks for the info I will call Monday!

Oregon, not washington.....

These guys got recommended to me by a custom rifle builder that said they are way better at feeding issues than him and would do a better job ..I had them do both a rifles inc 300 wsm and a custom rem 700 in 375 ruger. Both came back flawless

It may be a magazine problem where the front lips are wide enough to allow early release causing the bullet to enter the chamber at too high of an angle.
If you send it off to a gunsmith, be sure to include all magazines with the rifle. Some gunsmiths, not all, are very good at adjusting the magazine lips for better angle control.
