Has anyone ever hunted with them? Or know anyone that has hunted with them? Just trying to get some reviews.

Still trying to get specifics on where they hunt and if it is truly free range, just know they have 90000 acres.

Feel free to PM if that is better, I really appreciate the help and info.

yes...they have 90000 acres and none of it has been hunted in 3 years.........

I hunted with them for Desert Sheep in 2018 and was successful. They did an outstanding job. Very friendly and helpful. They are hungry to proved themselves. I hope to go back there again in 2021.
A lot better than the Dallas Safari Club Outfitter of the Year who ripped me off $40K hunting Baja desert sheep in 2011!!

Bid a trip January 2019 on Online Hunting Auctions for January 2020 Hunt. Several weeks before my flight, I emailed Homer Canedo , the person I had previously communicated with questions about rifle rental, etc. I asked if the camp furnished any laundry service and he told me the hunt was a tent camp, that I should bring a sleeping bag. I explained that his website had photos of their "accommodations" , rooms with beds with and the same website Indicated...."We have clean and nice housing solutions for all of our hunts!" Homer response was that he could rent a room in a small village , about 2 hour drive from the camp. I choose not to go, Sierra refused any refund, but my hunting partner went. The hunt was on the Seri Indian reservation, tent camp, 8 days with no shower, washing his hands and face with bottled water. He saw 10 mule deer in 8 days, the hunt was a combo Mule and Coues, he never saw a Coues, there was no game waters to sit for Coues. We paid $6250.00 each, the other three hunters in camp had each paid different amounts for the Mule deer hunt , none of them shot a buck. The auction we bid described this hunt as a "donation" by Sierra Madre. On 2/25 /2020 Online Hunting Auctions listed over 30 hunts that were "donated "by Sierra Madre Outfitters. Donated to themselves! Hard to believe that this Company can lie and fail to provide what they claim to offer and still stay in business.

Anyone been else been hunting with sierra madre outfitters? There is little to no information on the outfitter. Looks like they pirated some pictures for his facebook, instagram and webiste. That is concerning...
Just want high success rate on my hunting dollars. Any information is helpful. Thank you

i am hunting with them in jan of 2021 and i called and spoke with a person who hunted with them on 2020 and he had a great hunt. this person works for kuiu and has hunted alot. we spoke at length and i am excited, in fact i have 2 buddies going with me one is hunting sheep like me and the other a mule deer. in doing my due diligence, i think sierra madre is relatively new in this market and is trying to build up a reputation. i hope all goes well with us and i will post after the hunt

That is good news. I have the same feeling that they are just new to the market. do you know if the gentleman from kuiu killed a deer? Also just to make sure. Is it sierra madre outfitters or sierra madre hunting? Thanks so much for the reply

He actually was sheep hunting and yes got a very nice desert. There are mule deer there as he saw some but 200 in are rare. I think it is reasonable to expect a 160-180 from talking to him. Hope this helps

I just spent two days trying to get my two hunting partners out of jail in Hermosillo and two more days trying to get out of Mexico. Total scam by "Homer". Rifle registration was not done and that landed my father-in-law and friend in jail. (I am a bow hunter.) Have you heard of others scammed?

I CONTACTED THE AUCTION AFTER I FIGURED OUT THIS HOMER FELLOW WAS A SCAM ARTIST. THEY ARE AWARE OF HIS SHADY BUISNESS PRACTICE. I REFUSED TO PAY AND WAS GOING TO SUE THEM FOR FALSE ADVERTISING. TO SAY THE LEAST THEY STOPPED CONTACTING ME FOR PAYMENT. HIS PICTURES ON HIS WEBSITE AND AUCTION INFO ARE NOT HIS PICTURES! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND REACHING OUT TO THE AUCTION COMPANY. IF ANY THING YOU CAN GET HIM REMOVED FROM THE AUCTION SO HE DOES NOT DO IT TO OTHER HUNTERS. I CONTACTED OTHER OUTFITTERS IN THE AREA AND HE HAS A TERRRIBLE REPUTATION. EVEN TO THE POINT WHERE BULLETS COULD BE FLYIING. EVERYONE STAY CLEAR!! SIERRA MADRE OUTFITTERS IS A SCAM! HE EVEN POACHED THE NAME FROM SIERRA MADRE HUNTING WHO IS A LEGIT OUTFITTER.

I nearly bought into their bullsh*t late last summer. Something told me to dig deeper. Glad I did. There are multiple stories on the web about about this outfit and their scams. DSC had several of their "hunts" at auction but it appears they wised up too.

I am in Mexico right now and I heard down here, that they left two groups at the airport in Hermosillo and never met them or picked them up. This came second hand from Game and Fish down here. At the same time I heard about BowKen's group being arrested.

Just to clarify, I can confirm that at least some of the pictures are 100% legit. I can say this because im in them. I harvested a big heavy desert bighorn with homer last year. I enjoyed it so much that I booked to go back again this year. If the govt in Canada didn’t change our travel restrictions. I would be down there again on the 15th. Your not going to be staying at a 5 star resort. But I have yet to be on a sheep hunt anywhere In the world where you do. The food was excellent, guides were excellent and I killed a b&c desert bighorn. I wasn’t looking for deer, and even I seen one that would have been close to 200”. I can’t speak for anyone else’s experiences, but mine was fantastic

Just wondering how Marky_Mark got so lucky?
I bid and won two different hunts with them that I was going to take my son on, 1 for 2021 for Mule deer as a two hunter combo and 1 for 2022 for Coues as a two hunter combo. I emailed multiple times to Homer to get an invoice so I could pay and couldn’t ever get a response. I finally called the online auction and asked them how I could get an invoice and they emailed to Homer and cc’d me on it. I finally got one that I was to wire money to an account. The locations didn’t add up to where the money was going. I again attempted to contact Homer by email and still no response. Finally I decide to go see about wiring my money and if the bank could verify the accounts I was sending it to. As I was headed there I saw an email that Sierra Madre was cancelling all hunts for 2021. I again emailed to see if that meant that they would have double the amount of guys for 2022 as others that were booked for early 2021 would be cancelled. Once again no response. To date I have never received another email from them. I guess I can count my lucky stars I didn’t send any money. Can’t think of anything worse than being in a jail in Mexico with my son and trying to figure out how the heck we would get out. Would love to hear of others have had the same issues as I did.

I bid and won two of Sierra Madre hunts that were posted on online hunt auction. Homer was always quick to respond back to me always with-in a couple hours from sending an email I would get a response back. Online Hunt Auction sent me an invoice with-in a couple of day of the auction closing all the involve had on it was the auction date, Sierra Madre Outfitters and the total amount due with the details and payment instructions blank. A Couple weeks later I get an email from Online Hunting Auctions saying I have an unpaid invoice and if I wanted to keep my account in good standings I need to contact Sierra Madre in 24 hours. So, I emailed Homer, once again I got another response back with-in a couple hours sending the email, he sent me the with same invoice that I got from Online Hunting Auction this one had information on where to wire the money. All communication had been going good right up till I wired the money. I emailed Homer letting him know the money was sent, I haven’t heard a word from Homer or any Sierra Madre representative since that day. Many lesson learned and from the sounds of it unfortunately other had much worse experiences than me.

I won a hunt as well. I asked to speak with him several times, finally he called. Always and excuse why he couldn't call before. I did not feel comfortable wiring the money and asked for an alternative. He gave me a paypal account, I sent him the money, but not the way he wanted (there are 2 ways, person to person, or person to business). The way I sent it (person to business), I have recourse on my money, meaning I can dispute a charge if the business doesn't live up to its agreement. The other way I wouldn't have had that option. He returned the money and sent me a text that read "sorry it was send on a incorrect way let me check with my accounter and i let you know please". I think the fact he wouldn't take the money the "person to business" way says alot...

Bought a sheep hunt at the online auction Fall 2020 for Feb 2021. Homer cancelled on me after I emailed him numerous times trying to get information on my hunt. Plane tickets were already bought and I had wired the money. He is blaming Covid as his reason but it is becoming obvious that I was scammed. I am out $$$$. I have been trying to contact the auction site, Online Hunting Auctions out of Canada and they won't respond. They need to do a better job vetting the outfitters. Trying to get in touch with other hunters to hire an attorney in Mexico to go after the money. I doubt I'll see a penny but want some sort of recourse or prevent him from keeping up with this scam. I feel sick about this and stupid for falling for this.

Run away and don't stop running.....

So I’m a bit confused! On the website they claim all Sierra Madre Outfitters guides speak English yet yesterday Homer “no hablo ingles” then within 24 hrs he speaks perfect English to respond again. What gives?
I wish he would address why some guys were put in jail and others lost their money.

The homer here is not affiliated with Sierra Madre Outfitters and was trying to lighten the mood.

Those involve "Jhntn247", "jwatson", "sagerider" "Paco", "Bowken" and anyone else involved should put together some resources and contact an attorney down there and here. I just googled it and there is a few firms that do crossborder work. Maldanodo and Meyers, LLP out of San Diego for one.

Lol.....sorry for the confusion...this thread is only funny to us that havn’t been burned.

No worries. Fortunately for me I wasn’t burned from them but was really close to it. I had my “this doesn’t feel right” radar go off and I didn’t wire any money. Went to the bank to do it but stuff just didn’t add up and with no response from them I decided not to do it. I just feel bad for those that did get burned and even worse ended up in jail. On line auctions needs to be help a bit accountable for allowing this to take place as well!

I talk to him quite often. Shoot me a pm with your details and I’ll see what I can get him to do

So all these guys are not telling the truth?
That’s a stupid question?
I can only speak for myself.
I don’t speak for others
All I can do is try and help people get what they paid for. Do I have to? **** no? I have a bezoar, gobi, mid Asian, and a Tur hunt that I’m trying to rebook and change dates for too. This one I’m not worried about

I was trying to do some research on them before I bid on anything and came across a few posts here. At the time some of the comments were to be careful with them, new company, etc but now it’s like don’t get anywhere within a country mile of them and with many of the posts it’s sounding rightfully so.

Just curious....did all you one time posters just stumble onto this thread?
This site and another one were in the top five results in a google search, at the time the information I could find was pretty limited just to a couple posts. I came across their previous auctions and noticed In the item description “donated” not thinking anything of it till after winning my hunts and the communications went cold that’s when it hit me. The outfitter “donated” the hunt to himself to auction off? And when hunts are are being sold substantially less on auction compared to the price on their website for the same hunt or hunts from different outfitters in the same region. That’s when I realized the mistake I made.

Basically you get what your paying for then- paid substantially less and you get less in return.

You have to be careful today in many cases.

Online Auctions just called me back regarding a mule deer hunt I had scheduled for Jan 2021 that Homer canceled and they said they will not be listing any more hunts for SMO and they consider them to be fraudulent. If anyone has any luck getting in touch with SMO and getting their hunt re-scheduled or refunded please let me know. Good luck everyone and happy hunting!

Wanted to update the group that we have received notification from PayPal this morning that they will be issuing refunds for 2 of 3 mule deer hunts. The 3 hunt were paid in 2 transactions, so we remain optimistic that we will receive a notification regarding the 3rd soon. Best of luck to the rest of the group! God Bless

After not getting a response for several months Homer from SMO has been emailing that he wants me to send money to a different account than the one he originally wanted it wired to and get my hunt dates scheduled. Not going to travel down that road though!

I haven’t checked this thread since I originally posted my first post ever. I just wanted to update my situation. I have been talking with Homer via email and after much communication and asking for my money back he offered to have me down for the sheep hunt if I could come the last week of March. I don’t have much time in my work schedule but I had four free days. I decided to give it a go. He has sent me the gun permit and given me instruction on where to meet him at the airport in Hermosillo. He said he knows a place that will do my Covid test to get back into the USA. I am hopeful that I will be safe and have a good hunt. I will let you all know how it went after I get back. Homer offered to let me come back another date in 2022 for a few days if I am unsuccessful. I am hoping that I can hunt hard and make it happen in this one trip and do it without incident. I believe in the good of people and I am hoping this was just a mess up with Covid and he will be honorable in doing his very best to make it right. It seems like it at the moment he is trying to do that.

Sometimes business in Mexico, well all I can say is done differently with not much communication. I lost a deposit many years ago and still went back. Sierra Madre has been taking a lot of heat it sounds like for their poor business practices, with them now returning deposits and Homer offering you this hunt and to come back it might just be the best hunt of your life. Good Luck and please keep us informed

As promised I will update my hunt in Mexico. I left last Friday and I am already back home in the states as of Monday yesterday. Huge success! Homer hired Master Guides from the Seri Indian tribe and we were able to get on a beautiful 165-168 inch ram the first morning of my hunt. The guides were superb. Food was great. Authentic Mexican food. There was another hunter from Texas in camp (tent camp) and he connected on a beautiful ram the next morning. All went smooth when I went down there. I felt safe the entire time. Gun permit was right in order. Homer put us up in a nice hotel while we waited to fly out. His driver was with us the day of fly out to get the Covid test.
The last piece of the puzzle to call this a completely successful hunt will be to get my cape and horns for my ram. Homer promised he would have it to me by August. I told him I would appreciate that and not to worry about paying for my flight down there as we had agreed. I will let this forum know if he gets the cape and horns to me as promised. I believe Homer came through for me on the hunt and I believe he will come through for me on getting me my beautiful Sonoran Desert Bighorn Ram.

Thank you for your trust! And nice ram you took congrats again!

All huntes have new date and 70% of sheep hunter took the hunt on march 2021 after covid was litle more calm.

Many lesson learned and from the sounds of it unfortunately other had much worse experiences than me.
mmm can be
I won a hunt as well.
Imagine if you go to nepal to hunt a blusheep you have to use Money Gram or stuff like that, all with my company is payments with domestic wire tranfer inside USA, i have hunters every year for many years, no one force you to bid or to pay you are free to do any research after and before you bid or pay!

If you think bad its because you do bad sorry!

The hunts are donated to the huntera from the outfitters, or any faundation pay full prices and give them to hunters?

Noup!!! Foundations and Orgs. Ask for free hunts just to offer publicity thats all.

I know wen you win and we you pay and we you book the hunt you get super hyper and happy but after booking we just whait for the hunt and date and more wen is one year difference for your hunting date, we are not friends i hope we can be after we hunt and meet. But talking every day for a year sorry cant be possible.

Has anyone ever hunted with them? Or know anyone that has hunted with them? Just trying to get some reviews.

Still trying to get specifics on where they hunt and if it is truly free range, just know they have 90000 acres.

Feel free to PM if that is better, I really appreciate the help and info.

Then how about you give me a free hunt next January, I will stay on for an extra week to help you and I am also a photographer and take a lot of field photos. This would be for Mule Deer not Sheep and I will come back and put a great thread togeather on the best hunting in Mexico

If you are the best and literary the best in all of Sonora then why is the phone number listed on your website disconnected? I’m happy to see your internet is working now you don’t have an excuses for not replying to all my emails I’ve sent.…. Oh shocker, still no reply’s or hunt date.
The best doesn’t have to advertise rookie!!

The way you talk to folks on here that have tried to hunt with you is pathetic. Classic scam artist. Also, use a different Spanish to English translating app. Yours sucks.
Racist sad!

Good try!
Look at this contracts since 1999 the scam artist its your boss.

And i still have contact with them but they are old i have his numbers i case some one want to talk to them!

i am hunting with them in jan of 2021 and i called and spoke with a person who hunted with them on 2020 and he had a great hunt. this person works for kuiu and has hunted alot. we spoke at length and i am excited, in fact i have 2 buddies going with me one is hunting sheep like me and the other a mule deer. in doing my due diligence, i think sierra madre is relatively new in this market and is trying to build up a reputation. i hope all goes well with us and i will post after the hunt
update: NOT LOOKING GOOD my jan hunt got canceled due to covid although i know other people that flew in and out during the same time frame. we rebooked for nov 21 of this year. about 2 month or so ago i finally got a response via whatsApp and 2 or 3 messages. i have tried several times in the last 3 weeks or so and nobody has responded. i also see that their website isnt working anymore. i am starting to believe, i also have been scammed. i will post a message stating the outcome but not looking good

Acsartin - any update on your hunt? I am booked to go down this January with them. We were booked last January as well and had to reschedule. I am interested to see how did.

i tried and tried to contact homer and 90%of the time i couldnt reach him. i put a deadline of dec 1st or so and had a scheduled conference call that i had set up a week or so earlier via whatsapp. we tried and tried to call and no answer. we both decided to not take the chance so we canceled and hopefully will be able to schedule hunt if he gets more organized. we did however book a mule deer hunt with trophy hunt outfitters for the same time last minute and i killed a 211 in mule deer, so some good did come out of it. i still hope to hunt with homer if and when he can provide support that we all need as hunters

I had a very bad experience with them. PM me if you like.

Acsartin - I am glad to hear that you were able to book a different hunt during the same dates and that you got a monster muley. I heard from Homer today. Luckily my experience so far has been different than others. They have been responsive to my messages and kept me informed as things have progressed. Hopefully things continue and we have a great hunt. We will be there the end of January - beginning of February. I will let you know how things go.

Anyone been else been hunting with sierra madre outfitters? There is little to no information on the outfitter. Looks like they pirated some pictures for his facebook, instagram and webiste. That is concerning...
Just want high success rate on my hunting dollars. Any information is helpful. Thank you
there is a reason for that. Homer is a thief!

Almost went to jail today in Mexico Homer did not have my permit and never showed will not answer his phone. On my way back to Dallas be so glad to be home.

You should probably think about this trip before you go. Not a good idea to book with this Homer fella.

You mentiom seri Indians guide was homer able to get you a tag on tiburon island? Also did you have any problems getting the trophy imported?

I went with two other friends on a hunt with SMO last month. We were originally booked for a mule deer hunt last year and Homer cancelled our hunt three days before we were supposed to leave (allegedly due to Covid). Homer refused to refund our money and took months to get back to us. Eventually he rebooked us this January. We were also supposed to hunt sheep. We spoke with a few references before we left, and the vouched for the outfit. I suspect Homer runs a very few sort of legit hunts to have a few references.
When we arrived in Altar, Mexico, we were dropped off at a lodge and were taken out to the Sonora Desert for deer hunting first. We never saw or spoke to Homer. He would text back on Whatsapp but would not answer. We "hunted" deer for 3 nights, by spotlighting out of the back of pickups. This was clearly not what we were expecting, nor did we expect the guides and interpreters to be chugging tequila and snorting lines of cocaine every 15 minutes.
There were a few big deer there, but this was a spotlighting operation. In addition we ran into dozens of caravans of illegal immigrants driving past us each night.
Then we were supposed to be transported to Hermosillo to be taken to the sheep hunting ranch. We were stuck for 3 days in a hotel in Hermosillo and Homer never showed up. He never answered the phone, and kept saying he overbooked the hunt and he would send a driver to take us back to Tucson. Eventually, we had to find our own way home by hiring a private driver to take us the 4 hours back to the US at a cost of $950 cash US.
Now that we are back, Homer is again silent and dropped off our Whatsapp chat. This outfitter is a scam and should be avoided by any US hunter. This is not a legit hunt and you likely will end up losing your money.
