Well somebody on the trail cam ban brought up that he was surprised everybody wanted to ban trail cams but not baiting. I am willing to bet that more people would even be willing to ban baiting than trail cams. I am for banning trail cams during certain times of the year and baiting all together. What say you?

I support banning bait for deer and elk as far as bears are concerned who cares they are just another predator that needs dealt with

I have respect for all of gods creatures, except Utahns. But hey I’m a work in progress.

Has anyone looked at the actual bill for "banning trail cams"?

There are actually 3 parts to it.
1. Trail Cams
2. Baiting
3. Laws regarding WMA's

It remains to be seen what actually passes.

They Claim they're Worried about CWD!

They Claim when Deer Lick/Chew on the Same Item the Deer's Saliva is Swapped Back & Forth Hence Spreading the Disease!

Now it's OK if the Deer Lick & Chew on the Same Russian Olive Tree or other Eats as long as it Happens naturally!

So Yes!

Mineral Licks & Salt Blocks are Considered Baiting!

And If Baiting is Banned, Hunters Won't Be Able to Pack Their CHUM in to the High Country/Low Country anymore!

With the law they’re working on, would mineral blocks or salt blocks be baiting or???

“Anymore?” You talking to me about packing stuff into the high country?

I Can Tell You This!

Me & PUNK Have Seen Piles of Apples!

Anywhere from Fresh enough to Eat!

To Mush Apple Cider!

Them Boys on the South End of the State are Supporting Some Apple Growers!

But Notice I Said 'APPLY'!

Who's gonna 'Enforce'?

If it Passes?

And even if they Caught somebody with 20 lbs of Apples in their Pack!

How You Gonna give them a Ticket?

That'd be throwed out of Court before the Hearing Started!

But would it be called baiting if a Rancher did it for his cattle? to leave salt blocks in the mountains as they have done all along

Not me that’s why we are over ran with bears in Colorado

Baiting bears was outlawed in my state 25 years ago. But thats not why we are over run with bears. We are over run with bears because not enough people will get off their ass and hunt them. Most deer hunters wont even buy a tag to be able to take one incidentally. Bears are very killable without bait. Its a lack of giving a **** by hunters thats the cause, not the lack of ability to bait.

So what chasing them with dogs is respectful ? Have you ever hunted bears it’s a lot tougher than u think it’s not like you put out doughnuts and the all magically appear!
Yes I’ve hunted black bears, grizzlies and brown bears. I’d say that while my experience is limited, it’s probably more than what you have. Bears just don’t do it for me. But that doesn’t mean I don’t respect them as much as other animals.

What’s so hard about baiting bears? You take bait and put it out there. Then you sit and wait. That’s it. Whether they come in or not is most likely based off location of bait and if the wind is right. But those two reasons cannot be used to justify baiting.

Get out there and hunt bears. You’ll have more respect for them.

And as far as chasing animals with dogs my opinion is it’s wrong. It’s a stressful situation for the animal by man for the purpose of sport. No thanks.

I’ll have to take a look at what they’re pushing for.

All should do this Founder. This seems like a fantastic idea for everyone who is sharing opinions across the various threads on this topic that are sharing opinions.

It’s definitely interesting how many people have an opinion on this proposed law that have never actually read what it says. This forum has a ton of people that fit that description.

Ignorance truly is bliss, I guess.

I guarantee I’ve hunted bears a lot more than you have

So hunting in a apple Orchard would that be illegal.
That kind like a hay field isn't.
Meh. When you intentionally lay out food for what you are hunting that’s baiting. FFS it’s that simple. Why try to read so deep in everything. If that’s the case hunting elk on the mountain is baiting because that’s where their food is ?

I bet if you let all those apples fall and not pick them and have a bunch hunters pay to hunt that orchard, GW would have a different view on if it's baiting or just a farmer not picking his apples.

You’d lose that bet

JUDAS ss!

You're Just like Ocho saying:Ban the Black Guns!

Then You Say:

Ban The Hunting of Bears Using Dogs!

You'd Best Think That One Over Just a little bit More!

You Don't Realize this would Be a Foot in the Door do You?

Look at it kinda like this Here:

They Day You Let Hunting with Dogs be Taken away!

Just Give any of your Other Hunting up as Well!

ARE YOU REALLY THAT GAWD-DAMNED BLIND?

Are you counting the times you’ve baited them? If so that’s not hunting.

what’s your thoughts on using dogs for hunting pronghorn elk and deer?

Spoiler alert: you have high blood pressure

I’m trying to decide if this is a fishing thread. I was going to ask whether there is a lead sinker shortage.

Really I have already had a GW tell me that I couldn't sit on a county road and look at deer on a CWMU with bino's and that if I Didn't move he would get me a ticket for interfering with a hunt.
Now when his BOSS got involved it turned out that I really didn't do anything wrong to be on the county road that I can sit and look at deer on that land and he would have a talk with said officer.
SO yea I do believe That this GW would be happy to hand out a ticket for a apple tree being hunted over by someone that wasn't the owner of the land that had the tree on it.

sure if tags were otc.
I totally agree I would be on board with banning baiting of even bears if we sell tags for an additional $5 or even $10 tacked onto other tags. If that had been available on a deer hunt I was on back in 2016, I would have bagged me a black bear on three different days of my hunt. Even OTC tags have limits and quotas around the west, Utah could do that easily enough.
