2020 Bonus Point Data

I look forward to seeing this data in the next couple years with the party hunt tag return changes. I think the majority of the hunters in the deer draw with over 8 points aren't hunters and just family members that people have used to benefit themselves. With people moving to Nevada every year that have built points as a non-resident you will still have a couple with 10+ but nothing like it is now.

We moved from NV 5 years ago. I still continue to apply as a NR but don‘t plan on drawing anything other than maybe a deer or antelope tag in the next 5-10 years. My goal is to move back after I retire with my 35+ sheep and 25+ elk points with the hope I can still get around the hills good enough kill a good ram or bull.

Good for you! If you move back to the Reno area look me up.

Wow, as a NR, that's pretty discouraging info if I'm realistic about the odds of me drawing before I die.
Don't get too discouraged! Since Nevada is not a preference point state, you still at least have a shot at good hunting areas compared to areas in PP states with point creep.

It will be interesting to see what effect party hunting will have on tag draw odds in a couple years.
I also like the the fact they are looking at how to reissue tag that get turned in so late.
Good job by Nevada DWR

NV not a preference point state?????
Most all "preference point" states still give me a "shot at good hunting", with random permits, so Nevada's squared bonus points is not really all that different.
Any way we look at it, drawing limited tags is a game of luck with very low probability of success. I've been applying in NV for 17 years with no success and seeing the number of people with more bonus points than me certainly doesn't boost my confidence that this is the year!
None-the-less we all keep trying!;)

Don't give up hope! I was in the same boat as you not drawing for 6 years. Then I drew deer tags consecutive years and an antelope tag as well. 3 great trophies on the wall and worth the wait/odds.

It's Nevada, you gotta gamble a bit to win once in a while.:)---SS

I'm excited to apply for the first time as a resident of Nevada after moving from Utah last year. I brought enough elk points with me to be in the game sometime soon hopefully. I am starting over with deer and antelope points and sheep are always a long shot. -----SS

And elk haha

Well
I am also moving to Nevada myself within a couple years so with 20 plus preference points I might finally get a shot at some great tags.
You guys moving back to Nevada should check and make sure all your points can be transferred. I know Deer can but not sure about the other species!

Bonus point and preference point is very different. Bonus points doesn’t really allow for point creep when preference point does. I know guys that have drawn bull tags with zero points in Nevada

I looked into that a couple years ago and unless it changed I’m pretty sure they transfer over for deer but you have to call and get a request of transfer from nr to res

Yep, they are different, but not all that much.
I know guys in preference point states that give random tags who have also drawn good tags with zero preference points. If bonus points are not really a preference type point, why do NRs still pay the $140 tag fee each year to to keep them. And try to convince the thousands of hunters with 28 NV bonus points that there is no Point Creep!
We just keep buyin and buyin hopin that some day it will be our turn. :ROFLMAO:

In the second column it shows 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. What exactly does that mean?
Its showing the number of applicants that applied for that unit and what choice (1-5) they used with the corresponding bonus points on the left column they had going into the draw.

I´m with littlebighorn: Nevada has become incredibly difficult to draw a non-resident tag. The sheep draws are astronomical odds! I have 27 points for Cali rams, and will most likely never draw (7,000 to 1 odds) Starting to wonder if it´s worth the $400+ a year for me and the wife.

¨I should draw my cali ram this or next year??¨
That´s the power of positive thinking, treed! Good luck to you!
I drew a desert ram tag as a resident in 2003.

Could someone help me remember? If you draw your 2nd,3rd,4th, or 5th choice do you retain your bonus points? It seems like it was that way back in the old days....like 1990's.... :)

Homer.....do you put in for elk every year or are you waiting until you have 30 points? You should've drawn something by now right? Or does your brass supplier control the draw?
Why the hell do you have 19 deer points?
