I have 20 NR points and was looking at 3rd but just not sure what the creep will do. I have never considered 2nd season before but I want to hunt this year. What’s your thoughts on 66 2

2nd season dates this year are as late as 3rd season dates have been in the past. If the weather cooperates, that will be the premium season this year and into the future. 3rd and 4th season guys may be eating crumbs.

I think you're on the right track, personally.

I agree if you really want to burn your points this year.

In general burning 20 points is a big risk especially in Colorado. A lot of colorados hunts are weather dependent. If i had that amount of point I’d be after a 3rd, in my experience the oldest bucks drop there guard a lot more during those dates. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I hear you, I am with 14 non resi points and thinking hard of 2nd season as well; the units I want will be not drawn by me if there is significant point creep on 3rd season tags, so 2nd season my be it for me as well. Point creep will be unreal for sure his year (even in 2nd tags). Guys thinking they could get some Gunnison tags with 8-9 points will be in for a surprise.

Guess I need to maybe expand unit search. I really only considered 2 hunts 66 3rd and Unit 2 Muzzy (mostly because I love the Unit and liked be around rutting bulls.

That’s a lot of years for a 2nd season hunt. Especially one that scouting for would be difficult because weather could move something you’ve found scouting.
I wouldn’t count on rutting bucks at all during that 2nd. Maybe late in the hunt you might catch a few snooping around does, but after being ran around for 4 or 5 days earlier in the hunt by deer and elk hunters, I sure wouldn’t expect an old buck to be stupid during the last few days of the 2nd.
I think the 2nd is going to be much like it has been in the past.
During the 3rd, the bucks should be snooping around the does for sure. But you’re right, I’d expect the 3rds to take a bit more points than in years past.
The up side to the muzz hunt is that you can scout and find a buck to hunt, rather than just hoping to get lucky on being in the right spot for a rutting buck.

Great advice on 2nd and I'm moving on front that. Going to either roll the bones on 66 3rd or go for Unit 2 MUZZY. WHEN I HUNTED 2 for elk a few years ago I saw some very decent bucks that I was able to see several days in the same area. Pretty confident with some early scouting I may be able to get on good deer

I have to wonder if in addition to the late dates and more folks applying, we also see biologists cut the number of tags in some areas... making the point creep even worse next year.
With the way things are going, they’ll probably up the number of tags to kill off the deer faster.

Yeah the way CPW has been pushing this CWD agenda I doubt tag cuts are in the cards. We've also had a pretty mild winter in most of the state so I'm guessing they are going all in on destroying our deer herd.

I spoke w a biologist for one of gunny units and he indicated tag numbers may increase this yr due to recent mild winters and more deer
