Anyone have any info I=on the unit and quality of deer. I have 12 NR LE points and lying for options. Not sure any of the top units are going to be in play at my age.

I love the Vernon and have spent a lot of time on the unit. It’s like any LE unit in Utah there are big bucks to be had but a lot of smaller 4 points. Not sure you’ll be able to draw even the archery tag with just 12 points though.

The biggest buck i've ever seen on the hoof was on the vernon. Years ago, while not as many as they were, there is always the chance at a giant

I plan on finding out this fall, since I just put in for Vernon rifle deer tag with 19 points as a non resident and should be a sure bet to draw. I believe like the others have said that there are probably some great bucks there, but you’ve got to hunt hard to find them. I’ve waited a long time and plan on making the most of it. Good luck if you apply.

Same boat as you tracker12. Sitting on 12 points and also considering Vernon. Some of those premium tags look like possibly 100 years out to draw.? Even 12 points don’t make you feel too good on these regular units, but a lot better odds. Time is running out and I still haven’t decided on Elk with 20 points and Antelope with 12 points and the Deer. Good luck to you whatever you decide!

I hunted Vernon last year on the muzzy hunt. It was a fun hunt and I ended up with what I thought was a slightly above average buck for the unit. We did see one next level buck scouting but couldn't turn him up during the hunt. For me the great part about Vernon was the amount of bucks. All of our hunts turned up multiple bucks. From what I saw I would say the average 4 point on Vernon is around 150". There are also a lot of big 3 points. Not sure if its a genetic thing or nobody wants to shoot a big 3 after burning the amount of points it takes to get the tag.

Is that the buck you killed on the Vernon in your profile picture? Very pretty buck. I put my wife in for the Vernon muzzy tag this year with 14 points so she can mentor our 12 year old son on the hunt. I've never set foot on the unit but I live in santaquin so I will have plenty of time to learn it.

Yes, my profile pic is my Vernon buck.

Well I'm in with 14 NR rifle points. The buck in your profile pic would fill the bill for me. Fingers crossed.

The archery hunt is hands down the best tag to have on that unit. In the past 3 years Ive hunted the Rifle hunt 3 times the Muzzy twice and the archery twice. I was burning points again it would be archery hands down.

I'm going to spend alot of time out there this August scouting and then depending on what I see I might burn my 11 points on the archery tag next year.

Please update us on how you think an archery hunt will go. Im probably a few years away from a guarantee on a tag but have considered archery.

vernon has been running away along with the rest of my Utah hunt dreams. Seems like with point creep I am making no ground on the pursuit.

In my opinion I think the archery tag is the best...and I HATE archery hunting.
