Still on that waiting period for elk but deer, goat, sheep yes sir.

Going in with 1 point in case anyone wants to average + hunting partner = archery deer hunt. I’ll cover license and tag fee. Pm me for more info. Figure with 4-5 points a good tag can be had.

Glad Nevada changed part of their party tag rules, but this is the reason why party hunting should just go away. I predict in the next 5 - 10 years we will see people on hunting forums offering to pay $500 - $1,000 to apply as a party. Just another way to turn hunting into a rich mans sport.

Second thought, I should just start putting in all non-hunting members of my family and "selling" their points as a part time business..........

It took me 23 years to get my sheep tag and 22 for goat tag. Ill keep my points. This year I have 23 points for both the other sheep. Can only hope to draw either one, before I get to old. It seems evey year people draw with 0 points. Good luck!

I personally don't have a problem with sharing points and averaging them down for parties with point differences. As a capitalist I don't have a problem with people selling their points to apply as a party with someone either. Plus, there's no way to enforce it either because as long as you allow people to apply as parties, all sorts of backroom deals can be made without anyone knowing. Only way to stop it would be to stop party applications.

I'm glad NV did what they did on the tag return policy. However, even if someone with 20 pts is putting in with someone that has 1 to 2 points, the chances of them drawing a premium tag is still really, really low. In fact, it's still pretty low for most average hunts. NV tags are super hard to draw!!

I had a mule deer tag last year so starting over. My som is applying for the first time as an adult. Instead of me taking him or him coming along with me on a hunt I’d like to hunt together so party tag it is. Not everyone is conniving

Agreed, NV point sharing not as big of a concern. And for NRs, you are spending a pretty good chunk of change to get those points, so it would be a pretty substantial commitment to continue putting a non-hunter in for points just to get slightly better random odds.

This year I entered the draw for pronghorn & deer. I bought points for everything else due to vacation time availability & other hunts.
Next year will be a different story. I have enough points now that drawing an elk or desert sheep tag is a possibility. A bit slimmer for the sheep but still possible.

You should always apply for a sheep tag. It will take a miracle to draw and you never know when that miracle may happen.
The more time your name is in the hat the better your chance to draw no matter how many points you have.
If a miracle did happen and you drew a sheep tag you would find a way to make time for the hunt!

Move it over Nevada hunter.
I didn't make the rules but I will surely use every advantage I can to hunt Nevada more often. If that puts a wrinkle in it for you, I guess just keep scrolling. Assuming you a resident anyways with your M/M handle so why bother with it.

I hear you buckhorn! This just isn’t a good year for me if I did draw. It would mean canceling a hunt with my dad that is far more important to me. There is a very real possibility that it could be his last hunt & I wouldn’t miss that for 5 sheep tags.
God willing, I will get back in the pool next year.

I agree with Buckhorn. If you drew you'd make time. If you're a NV resident you could hunt a few 3 day weekends and holidays. I use to put in for points only when I first started applying, but now I never do points only. I currently have 80 points for DBHS in four western states and my chances of drawing a tag are still horrible.

A sheep hunt is very special and one you should always apply for the hunts. Draw odds are tough everywhere, but somebody gets drawn for every tag available. I finally drew a Desert Sheep tag in California last season, after applying for 34 consecutive years. Of the 6 sheep hunts I’ve been on, it was by far the best one. I enjoyed a fantastic time and was fortunate to kill a great ram. I will always apply for a tag instead of points everywhere that has bonus points. Wyoming has preference points, so I’ve been doing points there as I’m trying to get to where my son and I can have good odds of drawing together. We are getting close, as we have 23 or 24 points now. A Wyoming Bighorn Hunt with my son will be an ultimate dream hunt for us.

My personal situation with time availability is difficult. I travel for work & I am on call 24/7. The only way I can get time off is to take vacation time. I don’t get weekends off unless I take vacation on a Friday or Monday. I already have a few hunts scheduled & I simply don’t have the vacation time available if I drew the sheep tag let alone any time to scout.

Apply for everything thing except elk and bears. Buy a bull point every year but don't actually apply.

Drew a 10 early tag last year:rolleyes: so unless a miracle happens I'm out several years on a deer tag, especially since I applied for hard to draw units specifically not to draw a tag this year

How many points did you have to draw that 10 early? Got any pics of the deer you filled your tag with?

I'm in for it all. Not really high in the point pools but have been decent at drawing tags over the last few years. I think I'll skip all the hoopla and just draw a Silver State tag this year. ------SS

If multiple hunters are sharing points, wouldn't that start to increase your odds every year? On the flip side... I am certain most guys with say....over 10 points are not going to put in with those that have 0-2 points. I certainly wouldn't and I think most know how valuable points are.

yeah.....go get them all a hunter safety card first...

2 points, didnt kill a buck. Missed two forked horns opening night and those were the only bucks I saw. It was a waste of points.
The first year I drew in NV I screwed up and put in for 10 Muzzy as my last choice with 8 points and drew. Came home with the tag in my pocket. It was a beautiful area up near Angel Lake though. I wish I could have those points back.

I hunted the south end of 102, north end 103 and a bit of 104. The next morning after I missed the two bucks, the hill looked like a pumpkin patch. Very few shots heard all week.

Sharing points could only decrease your odds if you're the high man. If you're the low man I guess you're getting a gift. Its the average of the points. Not sure I'd put in on a combo for sheep. The 10% lockouts in most states on NR and the low number in units mean you're losing draws every year.

I can see the excuses coming up, I bought your license and tag. I want to hunt these units. My truck won't make it to nevada let's take yours. I can't get vacation for those days can you change your dates? Oh damn I lost my job gonna have to cancel. The list goes on...

This. I don't understand why people are saying it helps. I guess if you buy points for your wife or friend (who never intends to hunt) and you do a party app after they accrue some points over a few years (when you have zero), then you draw and she can turn in her tag and keep her points and you can do the same thing over and over....is this correct??

Exactly, but it's not worth it. Doesn't work at all with once in a lifetime species. And if you do the math on buying your wife a license and points every year with still no guarantee of drawing you might as well buy a guided hunt or land owner tag somewhere. I applied antelope in MT this year with a friend I intend to hunt with and was willing to round my points down. But MT antelope isn't that hard to draw anyway.

I'm a resident, so it might be worth it for mule deer, cow elk, antelope. Would cost about $100 for licence and apps for all 3 and would definitely give me a better shot at hunting every year. Hmmmm......However, my friend told me they changed it this year so if you draw you can't turn in the tag but I'm not sure he's correct. I'll have to look into it. That would change everything.

You're correct, party tags if one turns in everyone else doesn't they lose the bonus points the only way to get bonus points back is all in the party turn theirs in

Only for party apps. If one turns his tag in, you all turn your tag in.

All the other rules for tag return still apply.

Well, that's good I guess. I would have taken advantage of it even though I wouldn't have agreed with it.

In Nevada the point share thing would only work between residents applying for deer.
Most residents of Nevada with five or more points probably have a pretty good idea where the good hunting is.
BUT if someone has a lot of points and doesn’t know where to use them and needs a deer hunting partner let me know!
I apply for rifle, muzzy and archery.

It worked fine mixing NR and Res.....I did it a couple times....I was the high pointer with a zero pointer resident....I was only after the point.

That’s nice of you. I guess it would depend on which hunt you applied for. Did they draw?
This year both parties will have to return their tags if they want to get their points back.

Fine in a high odds or unit with lots of permits. Once again if you apply for a group with a NR and the NR gets shut out so do you. Example, a 100 permit unit and the first 10 draws are NR, you as the resident get shut out of the other 90.

Before this rule change a resident could buy Aunt Sally a hunting license and put her in for the draw every year as a member of a party. Every year she turns in her tag and keeps her points. After ten years you are almost guaranteed a tag every year. After fifteen years you are almost guaranteed a premium tag every year. I am delighted to see Nevada finally close this loophole.

I have put in as a party with a NR and drew first choice I have put in with a res and draw first choice both neither of us had points

If you know, only antelope horns shorter,, cow elk doe deer and buck are the only hunts where party hunting is allowed everything else is individual

Pick any of those. When there's one application number left to be drawn what are your odds if you're on a party application?

What are your odds as a resident if there are 100 tags capped at 10% for NR, and 10 NR and 50 residents have already been drawn, if you're on a party tag with a NR?

If you're on a party tag with a NR you always get NR odds. Whether you're ok with that is irrelevant to it's truth.

I am too. But I'm also bummed I never took advantage of it lol.

You will still have the same odds. You have no idea who gets the last tag. The way I see it is, if you don't like the odds Nevada has don't put in

Nevada may have some of the worst odds but it also has some of the best chances. I guess it's worth it for some and not for others.----SS

Placed my bets today. Hopefully NV doesn't pull a CO and extend the deadline for deadbeats.
They shouldn’t have to extend the deadline but you never know what they will do in their quest for more and more applications!
I have personally gotten three or four emails already reminding me to apply and will probably get a few more before the deadline.
The amount of new applicants in the last couple years is staggering.
The odds of drawing a tag in Nevada have always been slim but nothing like how bad it’s going to get.

Yeah buckhorn, it's always been tough on everybody in Nev. but looking at the draw odds now compared to say 10 years ago it's really getting tough on us non-res guys. I'm at 14 deer points and I'm not optimistic, and way past that for sheep and bull elk. That being said I've drawn a few deer tags over the years and 3 antelope tags. It's one of my favorite states no doubt. Always a good hunt in Nevada.

Kalkomey website/application process for party hunts is a scam and sucks all kinds of ass

When is the dead line to apply?

Just kidding...... :)
Good one eel ha ha.
I like that we could go in and change our choices up till the deadline.
I actually got on about 10 PM last night after I realized that it wasn’t looking good to draw my Utah limited entry tag and changed a couple of my NV choices to fill the season dates I had avoided with the prospect of drawing Utah

yes....I did too buckhorn....I got on and deleted my 5th choice for deer.....
I left my deer and antelope choices as is.
I changed an archery elk to later October muzzleloader elk in a better unit.
The Utah hunt I had hoped to draw was later October so that was the reason.
As of Wednesday 7:40 a.m. I haven’t got a cc hit or an email from Utah though.

Unfortunately they might be done. I got my “Thanks for entering the Big Game Draw” email yesterday afternoon.

The only thing my work schedule allows for this year is a HSTE tag. 3 points on that. Points on everything else.

I am sitting on 11 bull points and 10 cow points. Imagine my surprise when I didn't draw an area 7 cow point last year with 9 damn points.

Never had any interest in sheep hunting until a few years ago so I only have like 5 points on all sheep.

Sorry I missed it.
What is it you’re hoping to repeat? Thanks
Looks like this guy.
