Nevada draw

Nothing for me either. I counted up all my points for all species in NV and came up 90 pts in total!! Crazy!
I'm about the same total. I get so excited when applying... and then quickly deflated come results. Non-residents sure do take it in the sh#tter. I'd like to know the total applicant increase the last couple years. Then again, maybe not.

Nothing for me.....you don't give me hope for next year, Buckhunter1955. I only have 9 points. Sucks to wait so long to hunt a state in between hunts.
Hoping for Goodale here in Cali. I heard it IS quite the hunt it has been. LOL

I got a over-hyped deer tag, decent sheep tag and a really good cow elk tag. Which is obviously being sent right back to where it came from. Those 3 tags cost a total of 19 points. 5 of those points were for the stupid cow elk tag... So I don't know what you guys are doing wrong?

Res ? Or NR ?

Really? Does it matter with those numbers? I have friends who are residents and packing max points around with them. I also know non residents who drew with their points still in the single digits.

The only real benefit you get as a Nevada resident is that there are a lot more tags to go around. That is one of the things I enjoy about the Nevada point system. It does not require points to get a certain tag. You are however rewarded for every year that you apply and fail to draw a tag. Thus kind of getting something for your money...

I too enjoy the randomness of the system but paying ~$200 a year (license/apps) for a bonus point is hardly a reward. Its more of a game really. I have a ton of points for elk/sheep. Once I draw out I will no longer play the point game every year. That is unless I become a resident again.

I agree, as there is a good chance I may never draw my Desert or my Cali Ram tag. The problem is, if I draw one of those, I will have to continue buying the license to get the other tag, or my elk tag, antelope tag, etc. I fully figure I will die with points for something.

Unfortunately, the direction it's been going the last couple years, you're probably right. It'd be tough to quit now and throw away all them 'hard earned' points right? ;)
Then again, my father in-law drew desert bighorn his first year applying. All the bellyaching aside, I do like NV's system the best. I've had the luck for deer & antelope, just boned on the rest.

I don't really fault the system, I do my luck. I have had some tags in the last 20 years including 4 deer tags (I have one this year) and one antelope tag (I turned back in because I had a AZ Strip tag). I just really want a desert ram tag.

I see that side too. I also know what it costs me to apply in Id and new Mexico. And how much money they like to hold onto while I wait for my unsuccessful app to return every year. At least the way Montana and Nevada do it, I get a shiny new point every year to occupy my pea brain. I'm applying in all states regardless of system every year. But I do enjoy the placebo effect I get from the extra names in the hat I'm rewarded with for being a good boy.... lol

Not if you are lucky and have advance notice of death. Pick a reasonable unit and cash in those points I say. Then pay lawyers to postpone court dates till you croak. And make sure to donate a bunch in your will to sheep conservation. Then everybody's a winner!

I'm joking of course. ?

SWD is a big unit. Elk are spread out, and it gets a lot of pressure. Not sure what it's like now but it is better when not in a drought year. I had a tag in 2011. It can be the hunt of a lifetime.
