I am helping sell this mount for my friend's wife after he passed away last year. Bear was killed in Alaska in the late 1980s. It was killed in the early spring, so the fur is long and not rubbed. According to the notes the bear weighed around 900 pounds. In the fall he would have been 1000+. Mount is in great shape and is very high quality. Asking $7500 OBO. Located in AZ but can meet within a reasonable distance. Message here for more info if interested.

If I were you and had the time and energy.....I would research and find some realtors and builders that specialize in log castles for the rich and famous and send them a one page color flyer with a pic of that mount and a $25,000 price tag......price it too cheap and they won't bite...

Any idea is worth it for me to try because I really dont know the best way to sell one of these things. I've contacted a few big stores like bass pro but from what I've read they don't offer much. I'm hoping as you said someone that had some cash wants to put it in their mansion. Just need to find the right way to get them to see it for sale.

I don't know much about it, but you might try one of the big auction houses that does estate sales. They might could point you in the right direction or add it to their listings for whatever their fee is. Just a thought.

There is one place it might sell and that is at antler fest in Alpine Wyoming in June. Big Mule Deer seem to be the only thing holding value. I’ve seen quite a few trailor loads of heads and full body mount Bears sell up there under the same circumstance that you are dealing with. It is shocking that a beautiful Bear like that mount won’t bring 25000.00, I think your price is more than fair.

Homer you can go on a grizzly hunt for less than $25k and have enough money left over to stuff it! That mount costs around $6,500 from what I’ve seen in my area and then what $10k to $15k for the hunt plus having the experience of harvesting a grizzly. I think $7,500 is too much. I’m not slamming the bear or the owner it’s just hard to get someone that wants a bear in there home that isn’t a hunter and a hunter wants to harvest they own

go to bass pro I bet they don’t offer $2,500. My buddy said his friend took a mount to them and the offer was so bad that the guy said “I‘ll burn it first

anyway I hope the owner sells it for a great price

That's not the point Joe....

I hope it works out for you! A home in Jackson hole would be a great place to display a great looking bear like that

And thanks for the idea Homer, I hadn't considered that idea until you mentioned it and I have a good friend that runs a huge furniture and home decor store in Jackson hole and Idaho falls. Kind of feel dumb I didn't already think of trying there before.

My BIL is a painter in Sedona. He got a call from a lady who’s husband had died. She wanted all the mounts gone and the place re-painted.

We split a cargo trailer full of mounts for $200. I wanted some of the bird mounts for some stupid reason. Now I have some old man’s 360 utard bull and 30” muley and a bunch of other mounts that I can’t quite bring myself to toss. There is a pretty nice antelope though that I ought to score.

I was going to give the head to the elks lodge, and I always thought about asking if any bars or cowboy restaurants might want the mounts. Butt I’m too lazy.

It cured me of paying for taxidermy anymore though. If I draw that desert, it’ll be a full body euro. :ROFLMAO:

How cool is this! I hate the US Calvary especially that Custer for the treatment of the Natives, they were nothing but a bunch of P$SSYS! Killing women and children and their old people!
It breaks my heart to hear stories and see pictures of wanton waste of bison thousands of bison skulls killed off for their tongues and just to destroy a nation F&CK EM and the horse they use to ride in on! I usually would not own something that has probably taken a human live but this I’d be proud to display in my home or I’d offer it to the Cheyene People to display in their museum. Although Mrs Sikora may not share my passion on this Soap Box Rant I’m on! Anyway Heritage Auction House is having a cool array of western stuff from pistols painting letters etc etc it looks awesome. The auction does start till November I think but check it out if you like this stuff some very cool paintings even just to look at!
Here is where I would normally ask for forgiveness for my Rant! Not This Time!
in JD Blackfoots song Crazy Horse one line goes something like this

It’s Crazy Horse! It’s Crazy Horse! and I wish you were here to see
BECAUSE I GOT YELLOW HAIR CORNERED AT THE BIG HORN
AND IM ABOUT TO SET HIM FREE!

sorry pictures didn’t come through
