After the big tag reductions this year and of course before we see what the winter will be like I'm just reaching out to see how people would rate the following units for a trophy pronghorn. I will have 13 point non res and I'm looking at lots of public land first and trophy quality second. curious how units 114, 57, 62 and 67 faired this year. Also open to any other units that might be worth the points.

All great areas. I would wait for sure until nearing the end of the application window next Spring 2022 and see how the winter turns out and likely wait 2-3 years for the herds to rebound and a rebound from the drought conditions.

I should be moving to Wyoming either next summer or the following summer so I need to burn my points before becoming a resident. My plan is to do it while I am living there waiting my year before I can be a resident.

Before you move come visit in February and see if you really like it then. If you still like it, you might just survive that first year.:cool::cool:

I was thinking the same thing. Even though I lived in Craig Colorado for years there is just something different about WY winters. When roads are closed for several days at a time. And when you make a quick trip to Casper and end up stuck on the road for 14+ hours etc. IT is a different world.

It also has to do with matching up why I want to move there with what I like to do. I love hunting mule Deer more than anything and Elk are getting my attention more and more. I have hunted region G 3 times 102 once and a couple times by Baggs. I have 16 points for Moose that as a Non Res I'm chasing points. I have pretty much hunted every western state and I'm used to driving in snow and on ice. Even though I live in Az I live in Prescott which gets snow. 2 feet at once twice in the last 3 years. Thanks to covid I can now work from home so when the weather is bad I don't need to be out in it. I work for a large Firearms and Ammo Distributor here in Az so I am literally thinking guns and hunting every day.

Right now I am looking mainly at the Afton to Alpine stretch of towns although Pinedale also intrigues me with all it's lakes. I do hear that Pinedale gets especially cold though. I want to stay in western Wy and I will also listen to other suggestions and why. I hate the wind and that is also why I favor the western side. I'll deal with cold for less wind.

A HUGE difference in weather between Star Valley and Prescott. How does your family feel about moving to an area with 7 months of Winter? If wind is all you dislike then Lander/Riverton have the least wind but they also have other issues. Star Valley and Pinedale are very nice for 3 months out of the year during the summer and have a short spring and fall. The cost of living has also grown substantially there. Pinedale is colder and more expensive. Bring your family up in February, see how they like a short visit and then decide whether or not it could work for you. Just expose them to the real Wyoming before committing to an extreme life changing event. Good moose hunting with 16 points in a few less known areas.

It's just my wife. We will also have a house in Az in the valley so she can escape from time to time to to get warm again. Prescott has one of the highest cost of living in Az so I'm ok with that. I keep an eye on home pricing in Wy so I am aware of the increase but AZ is the same way.
