Hatfield knife question

I have had two MM members request knives that were more economical in price then my top of the line S30V knives which I sell around $240.00. I got the impression that they wanted the knives for children starting out in hunting, or for the wife or girlfriend that may hunt with them.
How many MM members would be interested in a hunting knife made with D-2 steel and heat treated to 59-60 RC. D-2 is a high carbon steel that 11% chrome has been added to the high carbon to make the steel rust resistance. If it had 13% chrome, it would have been classified as a stainless steel here in the U.S.
I can put together a D-2 drop point knife that is about 7-1/2 inch with a 3 inch blade that should fit small to medium size hands very well and sell it for around $140.00.
My question is how many members would be interested in purchasing this knife before I decide to order needed supplies? let me know.

Hey Bob, I was just thinking about sending you a message about getting a couple more of your knives made. I have two young children that I wanna get knives made by you. I'd like to do like I did on a few of the others you've made for me and supply the handle scale material myself.

I'm Thinking About Making a Few GUT-HOOKS,is anybody Interested?:D:D:D

I would be interested for my 12 y.o. and in a few years, for my younger kids as they hit 12.. I'd buy 3 if this was a limited run of this type... to me, its an insurance policy due to kiddos tending to lose things...

Ok, you have looked at the photos, you know why I decided on this knife, now, after having it 1 year how has it performed?

Let me start by saying I am buying another one, and then eventually buying one for each of my adult kids, simply put, this is a great knife, and a great tool, I LOVE IT.

I have used the Hatfield knife on 2 elk, and 2 deer. On each deer I caped, and quartered the deer. On the elk, I skinned, and quartered using the guttless method.

I decided after using it on these 4 animals that it was time for a sharpening. Before I did the sharpening however, I decided to do my shave test. I wet my arm just a little and then easily shaved a 1 inch area with the knife, OK, no need to sharpen, WOW!

I am confident that a hunter could easily butcher 4-6 animals with this knife before you would need to sharpen. This is far better than any knife I have owned, and is frankly just remarkable.

The knife is well balanced in my hand, and as you can see has a nice long ergonomic handle. This keeps the knife where it should be, and protects your hand from slipping onto the blade.
The sheath is also outstanding and made of very thick leather. The knife fits slugs in the sheath, and there is little concern about carrying this in you pack, or on your belt. It will stay put.

Summary:
Great knife, and certainly my go to hunting knife. I pack it and one other knife in the field when I hunt. The look and functionality are top notch, and I consider this the best knife I have every owned.

Joe the statement above is just part of what Mike at ireviewgear.com had to say about my S30V knife. He is part of a group of hardcore DIY hunters who buy hunting gear and test it in the field and report how well it held up or did not hold up to the rigors of hunting. I believe several Monster Muley members know Mike and his group.
He has a page featuring my knife with photos of it being made on his web site. You will have to go back in the forums to around June of 2016 to find the page for Hatfield knives.
He is one of several hunters that have given my knives high compliments for sharpness and holding that sharp edge in the field on field dressing out several animals.
If you do a search of custom knife makers, knives of my grade normally sell for over $300.00-$350.00. I had one knife collector, who has bought 10 of my knives for his collection of over 300 knives tell me, "Bob you sell your knives too damn cheap".

Can you make a knife that takes a replaceable scalpel blade? I want the custom knife look without having to sharpen it.

Very cool! How did you start making hunting knives?
Your knives are absolutely beautiful

Just A POOR Boy Working Guy Here Joe!

But I'll Gladly Pay More for better Quality!

And This Is No Dis-Respect to RELH!

Even If He Goes with Less Expensive Steel I'm Sure The Same Craftsmanship & Pride Will Still be put in to Each Knife!

He is a Hard Headed Hatfield Though!

One of These Days He's Gonna Build Just One CUSTOM GUT-HOOK for Me!:D

Joe labor time is about 8-10 hours depending on the model. Finger grooves add more grinding time and hand sanding time. There is a total of 6 hours in the kiln for heat treating and tempering that is not included in the labor time.

I have access to a ton of Hemp wood if you need any. It practically grows wild up here.

Thanks Eel. I do not have the means to process it into wood. I guess I will just have to get it from that company in Kentucky that makes it into wood planks.

That's probably the safest because I'd have to collect it at night when no one was looking. :ROFLMAO:
