This was my initial understanding of weighted draws...the system works similar to points, but weighs how often you actually put in for hunts, not how many points you have earned/bought (e.g. max point holders). Is that the primary difference between weighted and point systems? Are there states...

Facepalm...Not sure what I was thinking. I stand corrected and definitely prefer NM's current system. Been very lucky in the draw most years, so no complaints.

I'd also like to see something like a weighted draw. Seems like a fairer way to address the problem of having more hunters than tags without resorting to a point system. That said, I agree that NM's draw system is pretty good, comparatively.

Agree 100%. A hunting partner and I once filled his entire truck bed with trash after a turkey hunt. Most of that trash had to have been from other hunters. All this litter is a lost opportunity for hunters to set a good example for the public lands we claim to value so much. Not littering in...

Yes, check out the forested area east of Highway 285, just north of the flashing lights. It's the northern snippet of Carson National Forest, off of Forest Road 551. I scouted and hunted there several years ago due to a medical condition that required me to stay near 285 in case of an emergency...

I drew a VC November hunt, and haven't received the authorization e-mail, either. It's not in my spam or junk folders, so I'll check with them tomorrow and will let you know if I hear anything.

Last year, emails went out on 4/22, but that was only a day before the scheduled released date of 4/23.
