    WY Unit 6 Elk

WVHUNTER, I feel your pain...seem to be staying just behind what it takes to draw your target unit...and getting older every day. My plan was to dump points on a good private land hunt, then come back in three years for a General tag. Good luck in 38!

    WY Unit 6 Elk

The Big Horns would be a good tag, but I haven't archery hunted in over 20 years. Unit 38 is one of the other units I looking into for a rifle tag.

    WY Unit 6 Elk

I appreciate everyone's input. I've learned a lot more about unit 6 during conversations with members and outfitters. I had no idea that private land in unit 6 can be hunted on a General tag. I don't like the idea of burning 9 points on a General tag, so I'm looking into some other units...

Thank you for the responses and PMs. That gives me a couple more options that I hadn't found yet.

    WY Unit 6 Elk

I'm planning a rifle elk hunt for the 2022 or 2023 season and I'm leaning towards unit 6. I talked with Timberline Outfitters and Keil Outdoor Adventures, but I haven't had much luck locating other elk outfitters for unit 6. Does anyone have experience with any of the elk outfitters in this...

BH 209 Powder: Does This Powder Have To Be Tamped Real Tight in the Barrel?

It may not necessarily be too much primer...but more so the size of the primer. A poor fitting primer may not seal properly in your breech plug. This will allow the blast to blow the primer apart instead of directing all of the blast through the fire channel. I recommend contacting the...

BH 209 Powder: Does This Powder Have To Be Tamped Real Tight in the Barrel?

I second what "deadibob" stated above. Your problem could likely be the result of an improper primer. I shoot an Encore and had trouble with misfires. I tried two hotter primers and the problem continued. I called BH and they told me to try the regular Federal 209 primers in my particular...

Packing for a flight out west.

If you decide to ship items out beforehand, make the $10 investment in vacuum bags. Vacuum pack your sleeping bag and insulated clothing in order to ship it in a smaller box. Just ask your buddy to open the box and release the vacuum seals as soon as the box arrives so your items have time to...

    Bino Cases

I like the Badlands model because I also keep my cell phone in the bino case. Only thing I don't like about them is the water bladder holder attached to the back. You'll need their "Mag" model for that glass though. Good hunting

Best bipod to get for a rifle

I've been using the 3-legged Bog-Pod for about five years. They're really strong and provide a sturdy shooting platform. The only problem I have is that they are not easily adjustable when you need to make quick changes on uneven terrain. Great for setting up a scope on though. I use the...

    Unit 38 Elk Tag

Thank you for the replies. The possibility of snow is a concern for us mainly because I hear they shut down some of the roads in the area. The biggest concern we have is other hunters. I think we'll look for private access in a unit 6, 34 or 122.

    Unit 38 Elk Tag

Thanks for the reply. Ross seems to have a great reputation. From what I can find, it seems like unit 38 is much better for an archery hunt than a rifle hunt. I found a lot of information on the unit, but not much about the rifle season there.

    Unit 38 Elk Tag

I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on the unit 38 rifle elk tag. A buddy and I are planning to hunt in 2018 and are considering using Beaver Trap Outfitters in unit 38. I'll have 6 points going into next year?s draw and my buddy will have 5 points?so we'll probably end up doing the special...
