November 2023 Off Range Oryx hunt

Congrats on the oryx harvest! From what I read in the new proclamation, Ft. Bliss (or lands controlled by Ft. Bliss) are closed for off-range oryx hunting. I copied and pasted the language in the oryx section of the new proclamation: "Closed Areas: GMU 28, White Sands Missile Range, Jornada...

Thought on New Mexico draw process

your application is number one, not you. if it were your elk app, then you would draw your elk license. your other apps are separate and looked at later depending on where they are at in the draw.

Thought on New Mexico draw process

All species applications are put into 1 computer pot. This includes elk, deer, etc and also includes resident, non-resident and outfitter applications (some applications have resident and non-resident hunters on same application). There is 1 "draw" completed which means a random shuffle of all...

    Ibex rifle

I bowhunted ibex the two times I've been able to draw and had absolute blast. This was over ten years ago when the herd was absolutely incredible. I need to tag along with SMARBA and learn how to hunt!!! Followed his ibex adventures over the years, so if anybody knows what the herd is like...

    Unit 23. Bow FAWTF

That tag is only valid to harvest a buck during the September 1-24 timeframe. It is valid in the Silver City management area for a doe Jan. 16-Feb 5 if you don't harvest a buck in September.

    new commission appointee's

No matter who is on the game commission, sportsmen (and women) need to voice opinions in a positive way and work to find the middle ground. Majority of the issues are social anyway. First step is to get the game commission to move their meetings to a Saturday. Get more involvement from...

    Good luck

Digging this thread up again because of the good lucks i got after i said the boy passed hunter ed. He drew the Nov. youth deer tag in unit 24!! whoo hoo, it's gonna be a fun year. He's willing to harvest a mule deer or Coues' but wants to focus on the whitetail. I was able to draw the...

    NM A-PLUS Landowner List GONE

Public hunters will be ok in the southwest area. lots of public land accessible by vehicle or foot. Yes, some areas will be locked up and there will be some issues, however as a whole public hunters will be able to go anywhere they want and not be dictated to a specific ranch. I don't like...

    Interesting article, worth looking at.

When this happened, the guide and outfitters were very organized and lobbied for their interests. I do agree that it should be two pools, resident and non-resident. No outfitter pool. It will take legislative action to accomplish. We just need to get organized or at least speak up when bills...

    Hunting

That is a really great idea. Have a place to put down what units we want to be quality vs. opportunity. If 10,000 hunters put unit "x" down for opportunity and only 2,000 hunters put that unit down as quality, opportunity unit it is. we should go straight to the commission with these ideas.

    Hunting

"They" don't listen because hunters are not committed as a "group". A comment here and there does not do anything..... As hunters, we are just as divisive as any group. NMDGF thrives on that......Except for landowners.......... which NMDGF bends over backwards for..... Until sportsmen...

    Hunting

What do hunters want? Big bucks/bulls? We all do. Or do we? Killing males will not affect a population. Killing females "manages" a population. As hunters, why don't we comment and direct the Game and Fish to what we want?????? 60-70,000 thousands of elk/deer hunter applicants per...
