Those ahead of me have already made some valid points as to the state of what each unit is in. I wish things in either unit were in the state they were 20 years ago….
That’s very par for the course for 54 right. The sad reality is there are very, very few mature age class bucks. It’s even worse right now in 55 from what I’ve seen the last couple years.

As someone who guides in unit 54… the high country deer hunt has become extremely poor. Very few deer in the high basins anymore. Majority of the deer live in the lower country year round now days.
As others have mentioned 2018 was the last “good” year of mule deer hunting I’ve witnessed in Colorado and the last time I actually chose to harvest a deer. It’s been a steady if, not rapid decline since. The lack of mature deer in the western half of the state is apparent in any unit you step...
