Unit 015 Antelope

Just out of curiousity what is a top end antelope for this unit. Have any of you had this tag and how was the hunt.

I've hunted it a few times (mostly archery). My dad has the (rifle) tag this year. If you look hard enough 80+ is not out of the question. There are a decent number of goats throughout the entire unit. Like all antelope hunting find the water and you will find the goats.

The biggest Bucks are taken off the south end of the unit. Smoke Creek and Dry Valley Rim.

I just returned from an annual camping trip out that way. ALWAYS see bucks out there and some pretty decent ones. However, we saw very few this year. All does and yearlings. Everything was greener than most years.. lots of growth. Maybe that has something to do with it and they're more spread out.. I don't know?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-08-16 AT 11:25PM (MST)[p]I've hunted it a number of times over the years. Probably spent 40-50 days out there between scouting and hunting. I've seen upper 80's bucks, but not the last few years I went out there. The rush fire destroyed over 300,000 acres in that region, mostly in CA but also in some of the best areas in 015. Smoke Creek, everything east of the Skeddadles, Mixie Flat and other areas clear up to Buckhorn road were wiped out. I had the tag 3 years ago and scouted for 3 days before turning my tag back in. Never saw a buck bigger than about 75". A buddy who was deer hunting took a picture of a buck that would have gone 87-90" but it was in the roughest, most isolated country and he found it quite by accident. Nobody ever found that buck.

I love 015 but I'm not sure I'll use my now 20 points there when I draw. I think there are some better units these days, though 015 can always be good if a guy is lucky.

If you go, buy a lion tag. Several buddies think that is one of the best units in the entire state to kill a nice lion.
