New to the group. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reputable mule deer outfitter in the states or Canada? This would be for a rifle or muzzle loader hunt

Don't have any specific info, but pick a state and scroll through that forum. You'll see several outfitter questions and comments. Also scroll through the Mule Deer forum.

Hi S0047sm, let me be one of the first to welcome you to MM

Heres some questions that might be helpful
There?s a lot of variables

1) Price. Is cost a factor

2) State. do you want to hunt in a certain area

3) Are you wanting a trophy caliber animal or a decent class buck

4) Fully guided or semi guided

5) single hunter or hunting with a partner

6) time frame. Do you want to hunt ASAP or are you able to wait a few years in the draws

I am not an expect at all but there's some wicked great hunters on here.

Good Luck

Joe

Point status in various states? Guaranteed tag? Public/private land? Physical ability? Size expectations? Budget? You will get better responses with a little more information.

I am a single hunter who is hoping for a trophy animal but it is more about the hunt whether it is a DIY or guided an price is not a factor. I would prefer a rifle or muzzle loader hunt an I would like to start in 2020 as I have always wanted to hunt mule deer an I now have the time

I have one point in Wyoming that I purchased in 2019. I am game for public or private guaranteed or draw tag in good physical condition looking . As far as budget looking at up to 12,000 . Size I am looking for 160 an above but it is more about the hunt for me

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-19 AT 07:58PM (MST)[p]Starting to get somewhere now! I'm not 100% certain, but last time I looked, one WY point will get you a General tag in every Region except G or H. Those 2, and the premier GMU's will take more points.

For me, a 160" on a DIY WY General tag is going down. Outfitted? I'm with DeerLove, I'm setting higher expectations.

There was a recent post from an outfitter in NE Wyoming with some nice ones. Don't know anything about him, but I'll see if I can find the post.

Full disclosure, I'm mainly a eastern whitetail hunter with several WY hunts behind me. Never killed a 160" or better.

Found it.

For $12k you could buy a tag for several CWMU's in utah and have a great hunt with a very good chance at a 180+ buck. That's what I'd do if $ were not an issue.

I used to guide for a CWMU unit in Utah and can tell you it would be the perfect fit for what you are wanting. Guaranteed tag, lots of bucks to look at, plenty of big bucks if you can be patient, the kindest/most amazing outfitter and family, and much less than $12,000. a 160" buck would be possible every morning and every evening as they are very common. if you can be patient you would have a legitimate chance at the 180 - 200 range.

If you would like more information please private message me and I will gladly provide that info. it's still early enough in the year that he might still have some of his premium tags left that really produce big bucks.

I had a friend that was in your shoes about 10 years ago. I tried to talk him into using this outfitter for 3 years until he finally took my advice and booked a hunt with him. He had such an wonderful time that he returned every year thereafter until he passed just this fall. and not only was he returning each year, he was taking 3-4 guys with him each year. it's a great hunt with amazing people and lots of good deer to look at.

I can't speak for anyone or anywhere else, but my family started hunting with him in 1998 and we have seen some amazing deer killed and killed some ourselves. I am willing to bet you'd return year after year once you've hunted with them once.

Here are just a few examples of Bucks I helped kill with this outfitter I have been discussing. He's been outfitting for over 20 years and the number of good deer they have killed is pretty impressive.

This one isn't a monster but he's a really neat buck with some huge acorns on the ends of his points. One of the coldest days of hunting in my life too. The hunter and I ended up getting the quad stuck after this picture and it made for a fun evening to say the least.
