Old School Book Cliffs

My dad grew up hunting the book cliffs with his family back when it was an otc unit. They always were the “meat hunting” type and killed the first bucks they saw, but my grandpa eventually managed to run into a good one. He killed this buck on Monument Ridge in October of 1978. He skull capped the buck, but it’s now at the taxidermist waiting for a cape.

Love them good old days pictures. I wish I had some of the racks from my dads bucks from back in the 50’s-70’s that were just give away or thrown out on shed roofs. I do have one that he capped and put on a board in the 60’s that we had mounted a few years back. 195” 3x3 with eye guards, 32” spread brow guards, matched cheaters and 25” mains. Just don’t see those kind anymore

Sounds like a stud! This buck is a main frame 3x4 with insane mass and a bunch of cheaters, some of them are just hard to see in this picture. I’d love to see a picture of that buck if you have one!

If I remember right, killed this buck opening morning 1988 at about 9:00 am. Used to drag bucks out whole. Got him to the bike at about 4:30 and pulled into camp at dark. OTC and 3 pt. or better that year.
