Drew a desert bighorn sheep tag on unit 62 does anybody have any information on the terrain or the size of the sheep there. Thank you

Congratulations Mule!
You literally hit the lotto!
I have been in that unit looking for sheep but I've never hunted it.
My daughter lives in Grand Junction so we have been down a time or two for a look.
From what we saw, I am thinking 150+ ram is a good ram in that unit, but I think there are quite a few sheep that you could look over. The unit seems diverse with some private land, places you could actually almost hunt from your vehicle to some areas you could backpack into.
Regardless you should have a great time and you should also be able to find a nice ram. If it were my tag, I'd absolutely take as much time as I could and make the very best of a Once in a Lifetime adventure.
Keep us posted!

This guy on rockslide took a good ram. I would be giving him a pm. Real neat country. Congrads on a once in a lifetime tag.

I was lucky enough to draw this tag back in 2005, since then I have helped a few other hunters . Littlebighorns description of the terrain and sheep size is very accurate. I know that Molon Labe had several rams located last year that were close seconds to the great ram that they killed. Sounds like there are getting to be a fair amount of mature rams in the unit. It's definitely an exciting time to have that tag!

Mule 1.....you have been handed the keys to the castle. Now you need to go kill a good ram and report back.

Thanks tree I'll do my best, I have hunted rocky's on the rattle snake in ut. So if I can get my old fat ass in shape. One more question is it horse or mule county? And sorry for taking your tag.

Your desert will look awesome next to that heavy old Rocky!
I'm excited for you. Desert sheep are pretty incredible.
I may be down that way for a while in June. Not a great time to scout, but I may slip down to that unit again for a look. If so I will let you know what I find.
From what I saw, I'm sure there are some areas you could ride ponies, but I don't know about access, etc.

We did get down there Mule 1, but we were working so much we were never able to slip down to the unit. I may be headed back down in a week or two to work some more, but scouting this time of year is brutal.
Have you been able to get down? When does your hunt start? I'm sure you can find a good one.

I don't know when those sheep rut, but if it's prior to your hunt, I'd be looking then. It sounds like you have plenty of time to get familiar with the country. We have only been down there during cooler weather.

The rams should be traveling the rims looking for ewes during the season.

Those rams rut primarily in August, its hotter than all get out and the rut activity is usually best earlier in the day. You'll see rams cruising in November, that's just a product of the weather cooling down and not actual breeding.

Congratulations on the tag.
You can drive from the Escalante Parking lot all the way to the Divide Road on the top. Good Luck
