Wasatch Late Elk

I finally drew a Wasatch Late Elk tag! I say finally, because I expected to draw this tag the previous 2 years, but I have zero luck in the draw system. Hopefully some of you drew your dream tag.

Any others had this tag in the last 3-5 years that can share their Wasatch Late Elk hunting experience? I anticipate it’s going to be a tough hunt, with plenty of other hunters on the mountain.

I welcome any and all information about this hunt and unit from the group.

Thanks!

My cousin had it 2 years ago.. it was a fun hunt. But to be honest not alot of big bulls to pick from. And yes he was being picky. He ended up tagging out on a 330 bull. We seen alot of 250-300 bulls
Sounds like you guys did well. Did you cover a lot of the unit during scouting and the hunt, or were your efforts focused in one particular area?

We glassed a ton of country.. and covered a little over a 1/4 of the whole unit. We also had other people in other parts of the unit throughout the year.

My son had the late tag last year, shot a nice bull. My cousin drew it this year... we plan on shooting another nice bull. We put 29 miles on our boots one of the days during my sons hunt. The unit holds some great bulls but you gotta work for them. Hunt harder was our mantra!
That’s one hell of a day, sounds like you definitely earned your sons bull! I’m glad to hear there’s good one’s if your willing to put in the effort.

I don't have recent Late Manti experience, but from a hunt years ago we found that the big bulls find the nastiest country around or private ground and go there to lick their rut wounds. If you are finding cows, you are looking in the wrong places.
If I had the tag, I'd talk to as many successful previous tag holders as you can and pic their brains. They will not be sharing secret spots on an open forum like this but some will privately. Best of luck

My twin brother drew that tag as well. It will be his first bull(or elk for that matter) and is his first limited tag he’s ever had. Let’s pray it’s not as warm and moony as last year. This is my bull from last year. He doesn’t score worth a crap but I’d shoot him again!!! I love me some late snatch!!!!

That’s a really cool looking bull! Is he a Wasatch bull?

I drew as well. I was pretty sure I would with 14 nr. The icing on the cake was my buddy also drew with just 4! Making the drive down from Montana to hunt big bulls in some of my ole stomping grounds!

Wish I had applied for the late instead of the 2nd. Looking at past years odds, I had felt the 2nd hunt was a better bet to draw with my 14 points and was planning to hunt with blaster for sure. All I got was a big old "Unsuccessful " instead.

Handful of wasatch late bulls from the last few years I’ve been apart of. Most were found and killed from the truck on main roads. Covering ground and good glassing techniques have been productive.

Those are some great bulls. Are extras and devil points common on Wasatch bulls?

Some nice pics of late season Wasatch Bulls. I'm gettin excited. I'm a non-resident and I drew the Expo tag for this hunt. Can't wait, it sounds like a fun hunt and I didn't use my points. Good Luck to All this season..

Hey Guys my cousin drew the late Wasatch tag and was thinking about a guide for this once in a lifetime hunt.
Can you guys help me out with some names of some guides on the Wasatch that could help her out..... Thanks in advance

Berry and his family and guides are top notch, they know the unit and are personable people. Can’t go wrong with hiring them.

I’ve been scouting a lot just to gauge the quality of elk, as well as learn the unit better.

I’ve seen quite a few of the caliber in these photos, and two that were clearly bigger. I’m not very good at scoring so I won’t attempt to put a number on these, but curious what you guys would score them. Photo July 22nd.

It is a fun hunt! I start looking for the bulls about Oct 20th, and they already are generally in the area you are going to be hunting them. I will keep an eye out for you. You should see many bulls. I think the Wasatch late hunt is the best of the late Utah Elk hunts. They are generally in steep areas, so be ready for steep hikes, and odd angles of shooting.

That is a huge bull. congratulation

They better they pretty much live on it haha. He’s a good dude and kills some good ones.
Why are people dragging up old posts?

I understand where they live, and who they are, especially as I went to school with them, so your comment is..... well ridiculous.

but I can promise you there are people who “live” on this u it or others and aren’t good people or that kill bulls. I would also put money that there are good or not good people (my standards) that kill bug/bugger bulls, and may or may not “live” in the unit.

which as fore-mentioned Makes your comment ridiculous.
