Unfortunately they won't do any work to control the brush from regrowing and it'll be twice as thick in a few years...and CA wonders why these fires burn so hot and get out of control.

I feel your pain I got this picture today of the property we hunt in Colorado. The Biologist thinks it will be 30+ years if ever for the Deer to return there. Burned so hot it completely scorched the ground.

Hate to see anyone get hurt or any property lost but fires need to burn in California on a regular basis so we don’t get these explosive fires. Perhaps controlled burns will make a reappearance. Might even start seeing a few more deer around

I think the Mendocino forest is closed as well. Fire still burning near Covelo.

I think you will have to travel further North to find a hunting spot like east of Red Bluff and Redding.

Luckily, we have a small ranch to hunt on. It's on the A/B border that I can still access. But it's nice to take a ride up to Snow Mountain or Alder Springs once in a while.

But, you are correct. We have to go north to find a place to hunt B zone. We also have X6A tags, luckily it hasn't completely burned up yet.

In a couple years that will be prime deer habitat. That doesn't mean there will be many deer to live there, however.

Well, in the last several years, the B zones have finally had some habitat management applied regardless of CEQA and NEPA reports. ? Hopefully they'll allow some salvage logging too.

Don’t be afraid to hunt it ASAP after they open it. I like “strip burns” and/or the edges of burns. Plants will start sprouting within days, especially if there are springs or if it rains... in 2008, when much of B zone was on fire, I had the opportunity to shoot 27 different legal bucks on the opener. I filled both B tags on day 1. My dad and brother each filled a tag on the first day as well...

Much appreciated, 84. That's what I wanted know. The big thing generally seems to be access to recent burns due to closures. But I intend to investigate if the opportunity allows.

It has almost burned to Alderpoint on the eel river from Covelo.
It has also burned as of today, the Witter Lonepine Ranch and about 1/2 of the Stewart Ranch. Those two ranch’s together total about 49,000 acres. And the fires are not even close to being under control. If the fire crosses the eel river it could burn all the way to Garberville.

I heard they were evacuating Garberville the fire is in Benbow from what I heard yesterday from my buddies in Shelter Cove
