Here is my non resident buck. Living 20 minutes from Montana why not apply. I was hoping to hold out longer but my dad has a late season bull tag here in wyoming that is very important to take advantage of.

I been hunting sincd opening weekend. Seeing 100 to 160 deer every weekend. Lots and lots of does and several small bucks. Last week i spotted a solid 160 class buck with 3 three point bucks with him. He was a good 1 1/2 mile away. Got to 1000 yards and everything was looking good. Got to 650 yards and 2 bucks laid down. One came off the mountain face and the big boy vanished. So i got to 138 yards where the 2 little guys were laying down. Still no big guy. I searched and searched with no luck and backed out. Glassed all day and never turned him up again

Which brings me to today. Started hiking in and my dog took off. I whistled him back and realized he was chasing something. I just brought the dog to come and get some exercise. This is the one time i didnt have him on the leash. we sat tight waiting for light so i could figure out what was going on.. At legal shooting light i spotted a buck. Couldnt tell what he was. Set up the spotting scope and decided it was game on. Had a solid shot at 300 yards. The buck ran straight to me and nailed him again at 200 yards and he still ran another 50 yards to me and piled up. Well my 2 shots hit the same spot right in the boiler room.

Well i have a uncle that lives in Billings and i didnt know he was on the mountain to. He was 2 drainges away. He said he heard me shoot. He shot his buck a minute after me. He got big 3x3 with a deformed antler. All swelled up and stunk like hell. I guess his buck was rutting up. He isnt a share picture guy so i wont post his buck. He texted me that he got one and so did i and we met up later to visit and share our stories.

I have hunted Montana a couple of times. This summer i spent several weekends scouting and narrowed it down to drainges i wanted to hunt.

Best part is no one gets out and hunts. Everyone seems to just drive the dirt road on the mountain. Its amazing how many deer they drive by that are 1/2 mile away.

Nice buck thanks for sharing! Is your uncle pissed you were hunting his spot without telling him ??

How’s those kuiu urban pants working for ya?

Well my uncle should thank me. Before i applied for montana i talked to him on why this area is general and no longer LQ. He didnt even know. He actually wanted to hunt together but i am more of a hiker and go getter where he is just a meat hunter and not willing to go for the chase.

But i was nice enough to share my info on what and where i seen the deer. I was to the understanding he was going to wait till thanksgiving.

Those urban panys are ariat. I did have coverall pants on and took them off due to over heating.

Good job. How does the white tail activity look? My son and I head up for Thanksgiving. He is 10 and absolutely set on killing a White tail. I would love for a buck similar to yours to walk in front of us and see if he still holds out for a whitey.

Good luck on the Elk hunt.

Where I was mule deer hunting there is no whitetails. I haven't even paid much attention to the whitetail rut around here. been so busy with work I haven't gone out to glass.
