Just curious? Women hunters- will they handle anything/everything?

My wife just loves venison, She will shoot a deer and help with the "down and dirty work" (but not the gutting). She has no problem with meat processing, and is quite good at it. I see a lot of posts with their kills meat, or racks/heads on backpacks, etc. How many know gals that will do whatever it takes equally and unconditionally.I told her I thought a lot of women would have just as much passion as the men hunters, but she was skeptical of this. Any comments?

My wife drew a OIL Moose tag this year, I told her and my daughter that I want them to be totally be self sufficient with out me . They had to put their packs all the food and all the hunting gear together. They each no how and will go shoot to practice on their own. When she did drop that Moose we all got involved with the gutting, I will be honest I do most of the gutting but they aren’t shy about getting in there. We got that Moose all quartered and she pulled out a kit the fish and game gave her to take samples for study, so off she went to the gut pile for samples of heart, liver, fecal matter and blood samples. My daughters are always going through the gut pile Checking everything out. Some women might not like the guts, but from what Ive seen most women are naturally better shots then men, they don’t get all jacked up on adrenaline.

That’s a valid question.
My wife and 4 daughters (adult, married and accomplished hunters now) are all in but so am I.
On their hunts I’m their guide....I act like a guide and do some of the chores.
Few things better than hunting with the women!

I'm the opposite of Zeke. Early on, my wife and daughters used to come hunting with me as long as the weather was good. But as they got older their interest diminished.
They have never wanted anything to do with taking care of game and they are rarely interested in eating it. I love my wife and 3 daughters, but hunting has become a father son thing in our family. I wish it were different but I accept it for what it is.
If my wife asks, "do you want to go shopping, I respond...do you want to go hunting?":)

My wife did her packing of the animal. She also helps with the quartering, but I did most cutting on this last one. I get all nervous watching anyone use a knife.

When we got home though, she dug into skinning the head, removing the brain, eyeballs, and boiling it.

She’d do it all if I weren’t there. And she looks hot doing it!!! :)

My wife does it all. From hiking to the final meat wrap. One thing that I have had to get used to is hunting in the cold. I run pretty warm, so I don’t always notice the cold. My wife is always cold, so I have to pay attention to that. It’s hard to concentrate when you are freezing your arse off. My 3 daughters can do everything as well, but they are growing distant from hunting as they get older.

Pretty neat to read the comments- especially gratified that there are huntresses that will do it all and have the passion for it. In my home state, I've really enjoyed all the "first deer" posted on social media as well!

My wife will do it all but the gutting. I have 4 daughters who all hunt as well. Two push me out of the way and want to do everything by themselves. Two will help with everything but don't like to pull the guts out.
And I love that they are in to something that we can all do together. The oldest married a hunter. The second is with a non hunter and missed this year. I don't think she will miss next year. But the boyfriend better watch out or he will be missing her. Lol

My wife and daughter??!

Not a chance!

my two boys??!

Not a chance!

Don’t know where I messed up but I ain’t got a single family member or even relative that hunts besides my old man!

we’re a dying breed but that’s okay!

I wouldn’t want anyone out there hunting with me that ain’t up for the adventure! That would make more than one miserable soul including me for having to put up with them!

kudos to all of you that have a wife/daughters/sons, etc. that enjoy the sport!

Interesting this came up.

Last night we were about 2 miles deep in the swamp. From further out i saw a dude and a kid coming. The hard way.

There dog came out first and of course run over to sniff mine.

The kid was pretty young, 5 or 6 ID say.

The dude was a little fella, with a braided blonde pony tail.

SHE was badass. No man, just her and a boy and big choc lab. ID seen her out a few times when i was watching swans with a scope.

She is no joke. And she's out a lot.

My boys just watched as she apologized for her dog, and her and the boy went on.

Saw a pic on bowhunting site of a nice 4x4 buck, with a lady behind it that got it on the extended. 5 months pregnant.

Its a changing world, but that s a GREAT change!!

But there is no chance my wife or daughter will come.

My wife doesn't care for the "gutin and gillin". She will hold a leg or whatever, just turns away.

Daughter's, the one jumps in and wants to do, the other tolerates it. Doesn't bother any of them to shoot something.

Glad I don't have any boys.

My wife loves to hunt and she is all in for the boning, packing and butchering. She even did all the butchering herself one year on a buck she killed so I could get going on my hunt in a different zone. She went to Wyoming with my son and I on our elk hunt this year. She was a trooper the first day, but when the snow and cold got to much for her, she stayed in camp. She probably would have went with us every day, but her health limits her as far as how much hiking she can take. I love it when she is successful. More fun than if I pull the trigger.

I need and appreciate all the help I get from the husband, but if it comes down to it I can take care of my animals on my own.

I dictate the style of hunting for my quarry, make the decision on to shoot or not and help with packing and do the gutting when needed. I also do my own research on licenses and seasons and applications. Had a biologist and GW or 2 surprised by my calls and inquiries, they expected husbands to be calling.

Hunted many years with a good female friend, no husbands as we had similar time available for hunting. Took many an animal together without help. I've also taken out a few new female hunters and helped them with their first takes.

No doubt I will not turn down help with any hunting endeavors these days, getting older now and need it more.

My wife is my best and favorite hunting partner. She's tough as nails. Doesn't mind the cold, or getting up early in nasty weather. She is all in and is always optimistic which gives me a boost. She doesn't enjoy cutting up the meat or gutting the animal, but I enjoy doing it for her. She does most of the cooking. The least I can do is cut up the animal and gut it for her.

I have two Grandsons and two Granddaughters. My youngest granddaughter is the one who is jumping in. She wants a gun for Christmas for hunting. So she is going with me and my son which is a crack up. She also wants to gut the animal and process it. She is taking a 4-H course in high school here in California that requires her to do certain things to get credit. I'm sure there are you out there that know more about this program than I do.

Those are some great pictures of you and your wife Slam, and 4-H is a a lot of fun and a great growing experience for a young person, Deer Hunter 53 take lots of pictures of her journey so she can fill up her record book

My wife’s life doesn’t evolve around hunting like mine does, but she’s had times where she’s pushed herself pretty hard. She drew an elk tag several years ago and was pregnant. That was a tough hunt for her but ended up killing a small bull. She had a deer tag a couple of years ago and did awesome! Even after it got dark on us and we got a little disoriented. She helped with the entire process and packed a couple of quarters out herself. She doesn’t like venison but she (and my kids) LOVE elk and we’ve also had some excellent antelope as of late. She has some moose points and she is looking forward to drawing that one day (maybe). She had never been hunting before she met me so I appreciate her willingness to try to spend time with me doing something I love.

My wife would go for a hike and scout some. She would road hunt a little (not my type of hunting), I'm sure she was praying for the deer to run away. She and the girls go shopping while the boys hunt. OK with me.

My wife, daughter and son will do it all. This year I never opened a knife on my doe lope. They did it all together and I did was direct. My wife has done her own deer and lope before. I tend to do it as I am faster and cleaner, but she gets it done. When it comes to cutting and wrapping I cut she grinds and wraps.

Mine finally burned 15 LE points this year. I wondered a little how hard she would go on this hunt. 37 miles on the boots later and 9 days sleeping in the desert she killed a buck with 3 hours left in the hunt. Never a complaint and passed many bucks bigger than most were killing. On day 8 she asked how much a landowner tag would cost for next year because she was not going to get beat. In the end she was the one pushing me...lesson learned! LOL

And you better believe she reminds me to get the Montana opener on the work calendar every spring to go fly fish the river!

For the sake of conversation, I asked my wife if she would ever attempt to clean and cut up a game animal. She said things would have to be pretty dire. I've never expected her or my daughter to clean an animal. My 17 old daughter does help however. I guess I'm old fashioned. We have a farm and at times get way dirtier that cleaning a game animal. They never complain much about it. Cleaning a game animal the thing I do for them, as a courtesy for hunting with me.

My wife came from a non hunting family, but hunting was something she had always been curious about. I took her on her first elk hunt when we were dating and she’s been hooked ever since. She’s been at my side for the last 5 years chasing elk, deer, pronghorn, moose, turkeys, ducks, geese, swans and cranes. She knows how to cut, cape, bone, skin, quarter, gut and pack all on her own, but I never make her do it unless she wants to. Her natural ability to shoot amazes me. Her first deer hunt, first 10 minutes of shooting light, shot a 180 buck in the X ring, twice, at 585 yards. Her first time ever shooting a shotgun at moving targets was on the duck opener. We had a flock of teal come in, we both jumped up, run the gun to the plug, I killed one. She got 2. Usually she out shoots me when she goes, but doesn’t enjoy the mud, cold and water very much, so she doesn’t go hunt birds as much as the other stuff.

I enjoy hunting with her a lot. When I get to go by myself, it’s just not as fun. I don’t have to take it easy when she goes with. She’s pretty tough, and while she might not be able to move as fast as I can through some of the terrain, she is usually always right behind me or not too far away. It’s been fun the last few years to share experiences with her that I’ve had many times a lone, and watch her experience it for the first time. Like the first time I called in a big bull for her and he was close enough you could hear him breathing, then he bugled in our face. She loved that.

women are pretty incredible. And honestly, I think are better at just about everything than a man is. If you allow them the opportunity to experience things, and give them freedom to grow from opportunity, they are unstoppable on anything they want to do.

Can they handle it? I have watched the seventeen year-old granddaughter of our local butcher gut and clean a buck in half the time that I can manage it. It was scary how easily she relieved him of his junk. Yeah, they can handle it.

I usually deal with the real nasty stuff, but momma and the kids all jump in with the skinning and break down. Im just happy that my wife has some interest in hunting.
