Pre-1990 Photo Contest ... Let's See 'Um!

Photo contest

My Great Grandfather John Sulser. He was born in 1878 and lived in Midway, Utah. I don’t know the exact year of this pic but I’d have to say it is anywhere from 1900-1915 (he looks to be in his twenties to early thirties. I can truly say hunting is in my blood!

Not to change the subject of this thread, but I couldn't help but notice the cool old truck with a big ol set of Groundhogs on it. I used to run a set of 38s on my old Chevy shortbed.
Same here, I noticed the same thing. Lol

Dude, that is some cool stuff. Your grandmother was clearly crazy.

I can only imagine what it was like where your grandpa giuded. I don't know about lately, but that was a pretty good spot not too many years ago.;)

I have to ask, do you bowhunt? :ROFLMAO:
She was the Arizona state champion for instinctive shooting for several years. She and my grandfather had an archery shop in Tucson.. They also had a television show demonstrating trick shooting.

I would like to start hunting archery but it's tough to get a tag here in Nevada for mule deer and the success rates are really low. I finally drew a rifle tag this year with four points but had to turn it back in because my kids hunts took priority. I would like to try some Arizona OTC archery next year.

Yeah . . . pretty sure me holding a target in front of my wife like that is never going to happen . . . cool pic though.

Well,Well,Well Niller!

You Notice:

Very Little CAMO Back in the Day,How's that Possible?

I Don't See One F'N Wheeler/Side X Side!

A Few 'Horse/Mule' Huntin Rigs!

Not One Pic with 300,000.00 worth of Huntin BS just to go Deer Hunting!

I See NO Long Range Weapons of any Kind!

I Do See a Difference in Quality of Animals compared to today!

You Notice the Body Size Niller?

Most Hunters in today's World Have Never seen a Roman Nose Nor know what one is!

Not One Pic with the Hunter Wearing a 1,000.00 worth of BS Clothing!

Not One Pic with the Hunters Arms Extended, they were already Big Enough!

If You'd of Mentioned 'TRAIL-CAM' back then everybody would'of Said:WTF is That?

Founders Last Buck in TARDville,He was just a Punk!:D

Old Yeller in the River,If anybody Sunk their 80K Rig today they'd BAWL!

Back When Red Shirts were Worn Proudly!

How's This Possible Niller?

I'd Go Back!

I'd Go Back!

But here We are with the Worst Year of Mule Deer Hunting ever seen!

But Ain't The F'N GADGETRY Neat?

My older brother in the Budweiser shirt helped me anchor this Southern New Mexico Muley in 1985 right outside of Roswell New Mexico. Was our first descent buck hunting alone without our dad. I was 15 he was 17. Dad was pretty impressed when he and mom got home from Church and we had this bad boy in the back of the truck.

Yep Elk!

You nailed the list purdy good!

Hard to get excited any more when a big buck hits the dirt!

Most of the time it is a flat brimmed, turret twisting, jacked up wrapped coal rollin’ rig, 40’ toy hauler, 3 sage brush shredding sidxsides, vaping behind the phone-scope glass, drinking the latest energy drink, wearing the most expensive, form-fitting useless apparel invented just to put a 20 inch 140” buck on the ground!

What does the twelve person posse do with it after that?!

Take turns hanging the rack in their crib every other month?!!!

Not doing this for the contest...but just amazing all the posts/pics/stories onthis thread. Thanks Founder for this! And at 74, I've never come close to bagging a "big buck" in all my years of hunting...and would give up any further chances to go back to "the way it was" in the 60's and 70's here in Nevada. Most of my hunting camp buds, along with their horses are no longer here. This is the way I remember a successful "pack out" and deer hunt!

Well BLooD!

They take turns Parading the PISSCUTTER around Town in the back of their Main Street 4X4's that cost 100K+ before going to the Cribs!

But Pics put on the Internet before they are even Gutted are the Fist/Important Move to be Made!

??? that is some good stuff there. I’m a turret twister, but you hit the nail on the head.

I’m probably late to the game for this contest here but here’s my favorite hunting picture ever... it’s of my grandpa and great grandpa from somewhere around 1927-28. My grandpa is the kid on the left. He was born in 1922 and looks 5-6 years old to me though I don’t have the exact age or date. This giant bear was taken out of Wallsburg, Utah where my grandpa was raised. Hope you all enjoy it!

I'm glad you explained it is a bear. I was trying to figure out what it was and if it had antlers. Did he kill it with the sword he is holding? Super tuff.

Here are a few of what my Dad killed back in the day. The deer laying in the driveway was from 1954 Calif up out of Sonora CA. The big 4 point was a Colorado buck in 1967 not far from Rangely CO. Back in the day there were not many 4x4 vehicles. My Dad and his friends would trailer flat fender jeeps or a Jeep Wagoneer. The best photo I have is my Dad and his friends drinking beer on the lawn near the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.

What a great thread!!! Time to bring this contest to an end though. I agree with many others and the winner is:

JakeInLasVegas with this one ... HERE

He wins these awesome contest prizes;
Large European Skull Hanger and a Medium angle European Skull Hanger from Dead On Display

It's got to be really tough to take a desert buck with an old recurve! And throw him up on the back of that horse.

That's awesome. Your timing could not have been better. My son is currently in the process of turning his bull and his muley buck from last year into euro mounts and he needs skull hangers. Thank you so much. You just made a kid very happy.

Edit: I just called my Grandmother to tell her that this photo won the contest. My Grandfather passed last spring but his voice is still on her voicemail. It was a surreal moment. I miss his stories and wish I had had the chance to hunt with him.
