You can use your deer tag as a wolf or bear tag, which is good news because that may be what you see. However, if you are an optimist I'd at least pick up a wolf tag as well for $31.75.

Plan a summer backpack trip into whatever area you pick out on the maps. It will give you a much more realistic assessment of how to plan your hunt than showing up to the Frank for the first time during October/November
If your new to 27 you should probably fly in first. The limited road access can be dangerous. Every few years guys get trapped behind the passes after a storm dumps feet of snow. Can even happen in September and either you pay thousands to get your rig out or you wait till next summer to retrieve it. The fly in options are very reasonable and you will be in animals within day hiking of most strips. If you are willing to go several miles from the air strip you will mostly have it to yourself. But as mentioned several miles in the church is a brutal proposition with a load. That said it is a special place to hunt and enjoy.

Gents, planning a fly in Mule deer hunt around 8 Nov this year. Just looking to pick the brain of someone who has done this late hunt recently. Looking for pointers on gear and general info to help the trip be more enjoyable. Also wondering what folks experiences have been with hunting around recent fires (Scarface fire near Thomas Creek may effect our primary plan of flying into TC). Sheep hunted out there from my raft in 2017 and several summer raft trips down the MF so fairly familiar with the country (remote and rugged). Feel free to PM or throw some ideas up on here. Cheers.
