I know I'm a fool but it seemed like a good strategy at the time. If I knew then what I know now I would of gone hunting every 4 to 5 years. That being said what would be my best move now. I'm willing to pay to go with an outfitter. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to use these points before I die, I'd be a bitter S.O.B.

Even with 24 as a NR you are still in a tough spot. Can't draw 2, 201, or 10. I would burn them on a 40 muzzy tag if you want to hunt now, and be guided. 61 or 76 if you want to do it yourself. 40 guided would give you the best chance at a big bull. If you want to keep waiting 10 archery would be my choice.

Buckhunter...what's your primary objective with your points? Prefer archery? Rifle? No preference? I'm sitting on 20, will grab another point this year, and plan to use them on DIY archery at some point. I've been trying to hold out for 61 but with creep I haven't gained any ground in like the last 5 years. Will probably end up settling for 76 in the next 2-3 years so I can start building again and, to your point, burn them every 3-5 years. I think you have enough to draw 61 archery if you wanted. From what I understand, neither 61 nor 76 are what they used to be in terms of trophy quality (seems to be the theme across the state), but there are still big ones in there. However, it sounds like if you want a great experience and a hunt that has you in a lot of elk action with a good chance at a 300" 6x6 either is a good choice. For me, I feel like I can go with an outfitter any time and fork over the dollars for a landowner tag if I feel the need to. I've been fortunate enough to kill some big bulls, and I want to use my points doing something unique that I may never have another chance to, and I've decided that's a DIY archery hunt in a very high quality unit. Good luck and let us know if you draw a tag!

Here are my picks for your point situation... take it for what it’s worth.
Option 1: Unit 851 (Bosque Del OSO) 3rd. I had the tag in 2010.

Option 2; Unit 40 first rifle- hire an outfitter. Here is a bull my dad took in unit 40 this past year.

Why is the out of the rut 1st rifle so much harder to draw in 40 than the in the rut muzzleloader? It seems like the muzzleloader would be the better hunt especially if you are hunting private...
