I should draw this area with my points, any info would be helpful. I’m going to try to scout it this summer but that will just be for a few days, then I’m going to get there the week before season opens to scout and hunt for the fist week of rifle season . Alll if I draw. I should. I e heard there’s a place somewhere in the unit you can get fuel ?

Don’t know about the area but good luck in the draw and sticking to your guns and going for it!!

Don't do it...

Why not wait a year or two? Deer are not in good shape that is why WG&F cut deer tags this year... In fact there was plans to up the deer tags for the last couple years and the tag number would of been 400... Its Ur points though.....

I’m going to hunt it. It was my plan years ago when I started buying points so I’m staying the course
That was my plan also when I started collecting points. Wanted to hunt 34 one day, now I'm at 12 points and doubt I'll put in for that unit, which is tough since 12 points is kinda in a tough spot to draw anything good.

So I heard there’s a place somewhere in the are that rents cabins and you can get supplies and stuff there ? I’m going to camp but it would be nice not to have to drive back to Casper if I need something, anyone know where this is ?

I think it will still be a fun hunt, I’ll get to camp for a few weeks and I’ll be happy to shoot a deer that’s 150 or better and I think that’s still possible there
Good luck! I never saw a buck dead or alive last year close to 150. If you’re ok with a 120” buck then you’re good. It was a waste of my 12 points, but hey they are your points you can do what you want.

I live in Casper and have hunted 34 a lot in the past and don't know this place you are talking about.

Food, lodging and liquor in the south Big Horn Mountains. We specialize in outdoor weddings, reunions and retreats. We are also a great spot for hunting and fishing.
This is in the northwest corner of the area and up on the mountain. Not where I would be with a 34 tag in late October. Casper is a far better home base for hunting 34, but obviously not as rustic a setting.

But what do I know?

Hunted it last year. Wasted our points. But that is hindsight. Lots of research, lots of glassing, never saw a buck over 23” wide.
Elk hunters were up high in the NW corner, we spoke to a couple of them, not much of any deer up high.
it is a massive area. No doubt there are nice bucks in there....we never found them in 6 days of hunting.
amazing scenery, never seen anything like it before. Bring a camera.

Hunted it last year with the wife. That unit blows. Burned alot of points. Warned by others not to do it.. I did. And I regret it 100%.
Cool country. Awesome for goats.

I considered that unit a few years ago, and got the feeling the limited quota was not for growing trophy bucks but more for keeping that place from getting shot out. Whatever the reality is, there’s always a couple big bucks in any unit.

Biggest buck I saw the 16 days I was there

Biggest buck I saw in only 2 days of hunting in 2018. didn't try hard . Was anxious to get home to AZ. ,I had a Kaibab tag. But I would say you could find one like this . I think You would have to hunt your butt of and find the Daimond in the Rough to get a big one in that unit. I was ok with this dink...................BULL!

The guys that can’t find a big buck in 34 are the same guys that don’t find big bucks anywhere else. Give a 34 tag to a guy that consistently kills big chit and he will kill a big buck.
Yeah yeah yeah !!!

Look back at our PMs you sent last year
Come on SS, stop being so humble and post a pic of your giant buck. It would give hope to the other poor suckers and terrible hunters that there are big bucks in that unit.

I’ve never applied for unit 34 and even if I did and killed a big buck I wouldn’t post it for you snowflakes to look at. I see you have hurt feelings and I’m sorry but the truth hurts.

You’re a funny guy there SS. It cracks me up the stuff you spew out of your mouth on the internet. By the way, my feelings aren’t hurt. It just goes to show how little you know and makes your credibility worthless.

? oh man I apologize I hurt you. Feel free to PM and I’ll make it right for you.

Guys. I didn’t mean to start arguments here, I was just wanting to hunt this area and was looking for any info that people would share, good or bad but it didn’t matter to me either way I was still going to hunt it if I could get a tag, appreciate everyone’s opinions and help ! Maybe next year.
