505 outfitters?

Not with the guide, stayed 2 extra days, hunted new area and got my dad his first deer. Guide was a nice guy, but completely inexperienced.

Hunted with them last year, put me with a guide who had never hunted the unit....
Kenneth, sorry you were not satisfied with your hunt. You and your father booked a 2-day, minimum guided, 2x1 hunt. We hunt just as hard as we would on a 5-day hunt but unfortunately we can’t control the weather and 2-days can be a tough time frame to harvest a big deer. Dominic put you guys on deer both days and you also put a stalk on a buck that unfortunately didn’t work out. I also sent you pins to multiple locations that have produced for us in the past. I know my guides and I take our jobs very serious and always give 110%. If it were up to me every client would be successful on day 1 or 2. Did your father not harvest a deer? I appreciate all the positive posts and messages ! I just got back from a sheep hunt and will be getting back with everyone. Brushbuster I will be contacting you to answer any questions you have thanks.

I think it was a 3 day hunt, as stated, my dad got a deer after the 3 days were over and we hunted 2 days on our own. To clarify the point of my original post, just wanted people to know my experience, not to bash. That being said Dominic was awesome and didn't even want to take the tip we gave him at the end of our days. He is awesome, I was just honestly surprised to have someone guiding us who had never hunted that unit before. I'll take some of the blame for not asking more prior to the hunt.
Nice Ram!

Hi 505, muliejunkie didn’t bash you he just said he hunted with one of your guides that had no idea and never hunted that unit/area. Now is that true? If so shame on you for even saying anything to him. that was very immature, you made yourself look bad by saying “well you were on a 2 day hunt (and it was 3 days?) So that made me and maybe others think “well he only cares about the fully guided top paying customers! I drew for an elk tag with you for unit 2 several years ago I think that’s when I first noticed you advertise on here, anyway the morning the draw results can out you call me and said Hey did you draw? I said no I didn’t! then you just hung up without saying another word. Also you tried justifying your lack of supplying a qualified guide for muliejunkie‘s group by saying ” well your dad killed his deer right?Even though the harvest had nothing to do with you! I was in business building homes for 35 plus years I started when I was 23 and when I started out I was immature and a little arrogant!

Good luck to you and yours

JOE

Joe, I never said Muley bashed me. I was simply replying with my side of the story. They booked a 2x1 hunt for (two days). I only offer two day or five day hunts it’s always been that way. I’m not trying to take credit for Muleys harvest I’m pointing out the fact they were on deer both days and put a stalk on a buck they wanted with my guide. As I mentioned two days can be a tough time frame to harvest on public land with bad weather (rain). I don’t know in what way that makes you think my guide didn’t know the unit. As I mentioned all clients matter to me and my guides. We give 100% with every client we want you to be successful. In fact we had some two day clients harvest some great animals over the years. For your issue Joe I can’t control if you draw a tag it’s a lottery. Anyone who’s done business with me knows I don’t treat people the way you describe me. I always do everything I can to help hunters who are interested in hunting with us. Joe your entitled to your opinion but calling me arrogant and immature is uncalled for. You’ve never met me or hunted With me.

My family and friends have done two and five day hunts with Pete . We’ve had nothing but positive experiences with them. We are looking forward to another successful season with them! Dominic guided my husband to a great deer last year! He definitely knows what he’s doing and was very kind and professional. Like Muleyjunkie said he’s a great guy and hunts hard all day, That’s all you can really ask for. This thread was started to help a gentlemen looking for a hunt! Let’s keep it positive boys, no need for name calling we are all adults. I highly recommend 505 Outfitters!

wow awesome

I highly recommend 505 outfitters. I've hunted with them and even hired them on a few of my daughters hunts because they are a great bunch of guys who do give everything 110% no matter who their clients are. It's hunting and not always going to be successful. Like it was mentioned, weather and just mother nature itself can change up alot of things on these animals. Anyway, for the op asking about 505 outfitters. Don't hesitate. I've given my honest opinion to many others who've sought questions about their services. Good luck. A few pics of my daughters and I successful hunts with 505.

Hi 505, you might want to read my post again. I asked you if what Muley said about the guide is true that’s it. You still didn’t answer the question and you deflected and turn it on me, I never said the guide did or didn’t know the area! Again I asked you if Muley was right in saying that. As for my issue goes? I never said anything about or complained to you or anyone else about me not drawing a tag, again you deflected from what my complaint was and my complaint wasn’t that I didn’t draw a tag like you have some control over that? It was as soon I told you I didn’t draw you hung up without even saying goodbye. I’m sure you were in a big hurry to call the next hunter on your list. I’ve been drawing in NM for 15 years off and on, I drew 5 tags in 4 years with one of them being The Sargents first rifle elk hunt as you know there was only one tag with a total of ten per season. I didn’t say anything about your guide service or your success rate and your happy customers, My last statement was basically if someone makes a complaint about you you don’t take ownership of it and apologize you try to turn it around to make it the complainers fault instead, That’s what I call arrogant and immature it doesnt have anything to do with your guide service and how hard you all work.
I think your response to Muley and myself is just making you look bad and proving my point

anyway good luck to you and yours in the future

joe

Ive never met Pete in person but feel I must write something on his behalf. He called a friend of mine last year who drew a bighorn tag. He asked if he wanted a guide and to consider him if he did. My buddy wanted to try it on his own, even though we all told him to hire a guide. Pete told him that if he needed anything or changed his mind that he would help all he could. Even offered to let my buddy come stay in their camp and hunt solo because he knew he might need the help later. He answered plenty of texts and questions prior to the hunt even though he wasn't hired. 3 of us went and hunted hard for the majority of the hunt and were unsuccessful with 3 days left. The entire time, Pete responded to texts and questions, even though he was guiding himself. This spoke volumes of his character to me. He didn't have to do that and by texting back, using a sat devise even, he made a few new friends. When 2 of us had to leave early, my buddy got ahold of Pete to see what he thought he should do he rounded up horses and another guide took my buddy out for the last few days. His fee was minimal to my understanding and was only to cover the cost of the guide and horses if I remember correctly. I called him after the hunt to thank him for what he did for my friend. The guy was cordial and offered to assist any time we had questions. Not many outfitters would have done what he did.

When I think of a 2 day guided hunt I think of someone trying to game the outfitter draw to get a better chance at hunting. I would think that is what you are paying the guide for more than his expertise. Wish they would get rid of outfitter welfare. Can’t blame outfitters gaming a system that is set up for their monetization. 505 appears to be a legit operation in my opinion.

BeDawg, that's my understanding of the 2-day contract. Hunter already got their value by getting better draw odds in the guided pool, any extra assistance is just icing on the cake.

And you don't necessarily need a guide that's been in the unit before. Surely the outfitter has ideas of where to find game, outfitter tells guide where to go, guide typically at least knows what he/she is doing when it comes to hunting, they're in a good area, they'll likely provide the reasonable service to be expected.

I think Pete’s a better than average guy. I met him at his grandfathers meat shop. I base my opinion on actually meeting the guy not on posts. He Looked me in the eye and gave me a good solid hand shake and said if you ever need anything, please ask.

I hunted a week ago and met one of his guides(Scott) . This guide was respectful as anyone I've ever met , and after the hunter made a shot , this guide worked his tail off to find the bull. We exchanged numbers and he kept in contact with me as I was keeping an eye out for their bull. I don't know this outfitter ,but can dang sure say Id hunt with that guide, his character spoke volumes. My experience is guides reflect a lot about the outfitters they work for.

100%..... 2 day hunt don't expect much, you are paying for the outfitter draw odds and it's anticipated you know what you doing, as that aint enough time for chit! 505 seems legit to me as well...

I just had the 2 day the guided archery. My guide( Charlie) pre scouted, pointed me in the right direction and was of great help. I ended up killing a bull on the 9th day. I could not afford a fully guided hunt this year but was able to go hunting because of 505. 505 is NOT making any money on the 2 day ... trust me. I am looking forward to a fully guided hunt with 505 in the future. I am grateful to (505 & NM) for the opportunity to go hunting.

This is @whitetailrick friend (Verns) bull. I really appreciate positive feed back guys! We all share the same passion and I’m very lucky to do it for a living. My word to me is worth more than any amount of money I can make from guiding. I don’t guide for the money or to prove I’m better than anyone. Hunting is my life that’s why it’s become a career for me. It’s in my head 24/7 and I can’t get enough of it.

Again thanks for the kind words about my guides and I. I’m a very lucky guy to have guides that are like brothers to me. We are relentless and we don’t give up!

I wish everyone the best and hopefully we all make our dreams come true this season.

I can vouch for Pete and 505 Outfitters. I've had the pleasure of hunting with them for the last 4 years in a row. 2 private land barbary hunts, 1 public land draw barbary hunt and 1 public land draw barbary hunt my friend drew in the outfitter draw pool. All hunts have been excellent.

The first private land Barbary hunt me and friend did we never saw a sheep until the last hour of our hunt and by the time we got to them they were 80 yards onto the neighboring ranch. It's hunting but they never stopped trying to get us on one. We booked for the following year before we left.

Fast forward a year and Pete and Josh had us on our first ever rams 20 minutes into day one and we both ended up harvesting.

The 3rd year I got lucky and drew in the outfitter pool a unit 29/30 tag and Pete put me with a guide that grew up in the area hunting and was a hunting fool. We got a great ram on day 2 after seeing numerous sheep.

Just this year I had 7 friends put in with Pete in the outfitter pool, minimum guide service, and my 73 year old friend drew a 29/30 tag. He immediately upgraded to a 5 day guided hunt and I accompanied him with the same guide as the year before. Our guide had us on rams at 9:00am opening day and we had a 6 hour stalk that resulted in a 30" mature ram that we packed out in the dark.

I've hunted with Pete and 2 of his guides and they are all great guides and people who will work their tails off for you.

joesikora I think you may be off base a little on your posts.

My ONLY issue with 505 Outfitters is that Pete is a little slow at getting back to you but I know that is because he's usually out hunting without cell reception. It's a good excuse. Even though I don't usually get prompt responses to my calls I know he has me taken care of so it's not a big deal. :)

I look forward to hunting with him again soon.

joesikora is a bit cattywampus with his post/s and to insinuate someone is immature and arrogant without knowing them is ignorant. Pete Jr. is a machine who is Hunting/guiding from August to January and when he is not chasing game he is working hard for the family Landscape business. You would never know Pete comes from an affluent family as he is a very humble and hardworking young man. He always has a smile on his face and always puts the client first. We can agree to disagree and I guess we can chalk this up to.... you can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

God Bless You All
