Well I spent the last 2 weeks of archery and the last 6 days chasing elk and deer in general units. To say the deer numbers are down is an understatement. The over all population is down and the quality is also way down. In almost 20 days I only saw 6 bucks on public land and only 2 were legal.

I am very happy with this buck but also bummed that at no point did I see anything even remotely close to this buck. Definitely nothing bigger.

In all I only heard 3 shots from other hunters despite being in very popular areas etc.

He does have matching kickers identical to a buck I killed years ago in the same area and a split tine. Beautiful cape that I saved for the taxi. He will give us a great amount of jerky, sausage and sticks!!

Wished I had a better report, but the numbers just are not there…

That's not many bucks for 20 days of looking. Way to stick with it. Unfortunately your report seems all to common these days.
Part of it early was due to chasing elk in my normal deer areas and being stubborn and not wanting to leave what had worked in the past, but even then is was still really surprising. Water that normally has 20-25 deer on camera had 3-5. Where I normally find 5-7 shooter sized bucks and 15 or so little bucks on camera found 1 4x4 and 3 yearling bucks. Just way off this year. Hope we can turn a corner and get better sooner than later.

Nice buck sad to hear the state of the herd.
I think it can get better. The deer left looked super healthy, this buck was super fat, etc. just need a couple years relief. Light winters and wet springs for 2 years would completely flip the story!!
