One day, I received a voicemail from a fellow officer who'd been contacted by a man with an incredible story. He claimed that he'd wounded a bull elk on the mountain in the fall of 2012, and his bull had just been found — six years later.

Great story never give up

That is a cool story and it's amazing how well they can last sometimes. I was visiting a friend on his ranch this year and glassed up a huge deadhead bull while looking for deer. I asked him about it and he told me that everyone was leaving it alone. He told me that a father and son had approached him a few years earlier asking if they could enter his property to look for a big bull that had been wounded on the adjacent public land. He allowed them access and they spent several days scouring the canyons looking for the bull. Unfortunately, the season ended and they were never able to find it. The next year, my friend located the deadhead and contacted the dad to let him know. He told the rancher that his boy had left on a mission shortly after the hunt and would not be back until December 2021. It was decided that the bull would remain untouched until the young man's return when he and his father could go together and see if it was, in deed, the lost bull. If it is, they will work with DNR to finally recover the lost bull. ----SS
