When will ammo be available?

Do I have to worry about getting ammo (300 win mag) next summer for my fall 2022 hunts? Currently I cannot find any of the 3 300 win mag ammo I typically use, or any of the 2 I want to try?

Worrying Ain't Gonna Help Anything!

I'd Start Looking Now!

Maybe Make a Post/Thread on Exactly What You're Looking For!

300 WIN MAG AMMO has Been Damn Scarce Around Here!

Somebody Lied!

They Said By Early Fall HUNTING AMMO Would Start Showing Up!

It's Been Minimal Around Here!

I Checked Heber Sportsman's Warehouse A Couple Days ago & The Same Ole BS Ammo that was There Last Time I Checked!

Oh you think the ammo shortages are bad for rifle rounds, try waterfowl shotgun shells, it’s now half the hunt just finding the ammo!
Yesterday as I was checking out the the first boxes to come in weeks and a guy pulls up, grabs his limit of boxes then proceeds to call his buddies so they can come do the same.
Anybody got an idea of how to stop ammo hoarders/reseller?

It is all ammo, shotgun slugs, bird shot, etc. Shelves are bare here and online Cabelas, Federal etc almost everything, in every caliber, so sold out.

It’s probably the new normal. As others have stated I started collecting back in 2013 started with .22 then it got better and I would just buy what I could when I could. I hope the good days come back soon but it’s an election year in 22 so not much optimism from me.

I’m still confused why ammo isn’t being produced and hitting the shelves. Can someone catch me up. I don’t follow news stories very well anymore.

Went to my local store yesterday. Lots and lots of ammo. Just basic brands. But shelves looked good.

Bought 160 rounds of 7mag. Hope i am not labeled as a hoarder due to still plenty left on shelf for the next guy

How dare you buy that many! ?

It's not just ammo, it's just about everything. We are constantly running out of electrical supplies. Some products are backordered over 3 to 4 months. Try buying a turkey the week of Thanksgiving and see how that goes.

I just made a call to a guy in the ammo industry, he basically said the supply chain is F****d, even though they are producing ammo, there is a lot of bad cogs in the gears that are keeping them from being able to send ammo out to stores at high volume.
Honestly if people would stop sh****g bricks about covid the world would be a lot better.
I mean come on, it’s a virus, you can’t stop that kind of a thing:rolleyes:

And I hear they'll be pushin $60!

That would be a good thing. Turkey is played out in my opinion and I would rather have Enchiladas instead. On the issue of 3-4 months, I just ordered two 50 round boxes of Hornady brass for 300 Savage from a well known online place and it’s 2-4 months out. I thought I was getting it right away because when I clicked on it, it allowed me to Add to Cart instead of Place Backorder. Then I get the email notification about it being on back order. It’s 300 Savage so it’s no big deal in the big picture. It’s not like I’m going to use it for anything important. I’m just going to play with it but if it was, I would be in trouble.

Never underestimate your opponent. The ammo shortage has nothing to do with the other supply chain issues that were all upset due to COVID and now other reasons.

The 2nd amendment protects your right to bear arms. It affords you no right to have access to ammo in a timely manner, in an affordable manner, or to have a wide variety of choices. The people who want to limit damage caused by guns (I am being too nice with this descriptor) are smarter than you think.

They went after the production of primers, gun power, lead ammo, etc. They shut down plants and put laws in place to prevent new ones from being built using environmental laws. In addition they are putting roadblocks in place on the importation of these things from other countries - countries we are often at odds with - Russia, etc.

Someone asked if it is going to get better - absolutely not - it is going to get much worse. I was never a hoarder - I now buy ammo by the case. It is not hoarders by the way at all - it is 100% lack of supplies issue and diminished production capacity. A local businessman in our area bought some used equipment to manufacture ammo - he actually thought the issue was that people just were to lazy or stupid to produce more. Guess what happened when he went to order primers, shot, etc. He never produced a single box for sale.

I have enough ammo (and arrows) for at least the next three years.

Several CEOs of ammo plants have stated they are running at full production and have put on more employees due to the demand. Take a look at the stats on new gun buyers. It is in the millions and they have added to the demand for ammo for their guns.
Also there is a clog in the trucking industry that is slowing down getting freight to the retail stores.
Eel about those cheap turkeys, buy many as the price has jumped for the large turkeys. Wife was in the store today and saw prices of around 80 bucks for large 22 lb. turkeys. California also passed that law that demands free range for poultry and that is going to shut down a lot of small growers and you guessed it, another price increase due to radical liberals.

Buy 6.5 CM. Plenty of that laying around. Or a 6.8 Western...

I just saw 11-12 lb. turkeys for $6.00/ea this morning. I bought 10. I hate people who hoard.
Eel, didn't the sawmill give you guys turkeys for Thanksgiving. The coal mines always gave us turkeys for Thanksgiving and hams for Christmas. They would even call me after I retired and tell me to come and get my free ham and turkey.

Then, Obama put them bankrupt and that was the end of my hams and turkeys.

I think they did a few years. Then they started giving $50 gift cards from locally owned grocery stores. That quit when I retired. I do get free mill trim ends for firewood though. The owner told me to come down anytime I want.

Eel, are you using kerosene to start your fireplace fires or are you saving the kerosene for burning down my Cuz's place at Shelter Cove?

Reminds me of my Grandfather telling me about living thru the depression..you didn't waste ammo on targets or fence-posts you became a hunter and made every shot count...I got good at ground-sluicing..

Starting to see some here and there. Barnes and Nosler both said they would be producing 300WM late this year early 22’.

I've not shot this bullet yet but it gets pretty good reviews.
Good outlet to deal with

I've seen primers available relatively often lately, if you're willing to pay the price... I'm not.

Wanting to buy a new Bobcat rifle.
Not seeing any .22 Hornet ammo.
Course, I cant find the rifle either, so I'm good.

I've told this story before and I'll say it again. My grandparents raised me and my grandpa would tell me that during ww2 as a civilian he searched high and low for ammo (30-06) to deer hunt and he could only scrounge up six rounds and had to make them last for several years. I was twelve when he first told me that and it was one story I took to heart and learned from. I'm glad I did.

I Don't See Any BH 209?

I usually Check, but I forgot this time. Forgetting Comes with old age when you get into your 60's Elk......in the spring they had several containers that sat on the shelf for a couple of months @52.99. They sold slowly. They have been out over the summer, but I will look next week when I am in there. I have 4 containers and that will last me for what time I have left hunting so I wasn't looking currently, but I will next time I am there.

9mm, 45, 380, and even 38 special were on the shelves. I think I saw some 6.5 Creedmore too. ;)

Quite a bit of shotgun ammo including 28 gauge, 20 gauge and 16 gauge. There were limits and the pricing was high.

Shelves pretty empty here. Hell only 20 boxes of 300 rum left @elkassassin

.22 lr was a screaming deal today. But i got enough so held myself back

Ohhh this picture is only one side. The other side is about half of this one

Sportsmans had quite a bit more ammo today than I'm used to seeing bunches of 223 and 6.5 creed 7mm mag 308 and several different 300 like 300 rum etc

Ammo starting to show up in bunches at Scheels; not so much at Sportsmans. No .300 RUM, no Winnie, but a bunch of .300 WBY. Lots of .22

And thousands of .22/55Gr bullets...all at 15% off. A box of 100 .22/55Gr, cannelure/BT for $9.

I got a carton of Federal 209A primers for $75, and half dozen Pyrodex P and Blackhorn. Even if rifle ammo stays short, I can shoot the muzzy for years

I never thought all the half breed 6.5's and 6.8's would become the "normal" ammo!

Since I also have an extra magnum bolt face bolt for the little Model Seven, I might screw a 300 WSM barrel on it, and make a fire-breathing dragon out of it!!!
