Thoughts on point creep for 2022

Point creep slowed in 2020 due to COVID and then came roaring back in 2021 because everyone was ready to go hunting.
I think point creep in 2022 will be worse than average. I think there are people that stayed out of the game in 2020 and 2021 and will be back in for 2022.

In Colorado for Deer, I think you may actually see point drop or stay the same. Lots of people put in this year due to the later season dates so major point creep on several units. They have doubled and tripled the tags on the 3rd and 4th season and those quality bucks are just going to be far and few for a few years. At least I am sitting on 14 ish points and thinking I might wait for 5-6 years to see if something changes. I scouted the unit I was think about this weekend, and I wasn't impressed. I can do a general hunt in my home state and find 2 points. :)

I personally believe almost nobody sat out during 2021, I could be wrong though.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think it could increase much. I think almost everyone applied.

Hard to say. A lot held out for the 2021 late season dates and dumped a lot of points. I don’t see 2022 being any different. I’ll be putting my points on the table next year.

Does it matter? The “quality” shipped out about 5 years ago, perhaps sooner, now a panic to dump them. The date advantage seems to just be putting more smaller bucks on the ground…..so far. Lots to look forward to if your sitting on a point pile.

I think it depends on the unit. Some of the 2nd and 3rd season deer tags that saw crazy point creep in 2021 will probably take less points to draw in 2022 than they did in 2021.

A big outside factor is the economy. When the economy corrects and people feel less secure in their jobs and don't have free money from the government, it will be slightly easier to draw some tags.

I will be back in for 2022. I missed my tag by 2 points, i thought A buffer of 3 points would be ok for creep. Not even close. I would bet a fair sum of money I draw it this year. Most people blew their wad so to speak. But those that barely missed like myself will keep the 3rd season tags above the 2020 levels for sure I bet. Those that did not draw got lucky with the weather. It could have been a real slaughter with a couple feet of snow up high in end of oct.
Oh one more thing. Canada being closed unless you had business there has not helped draw odds In lower 48 last two years either, not mentioned much.
