My son killed this unique piebald buck during the muzzy hunt. He had a goal of killing a mature buck and he passed on many small bucks during the hunt with hopes of seeing something bigger. When we glassed up this cool buck he said “Dad, I know he’s not a mature buck buck but I like him and want to make a rug”.

I got lucky and drew an LE muzzleloader deer tag here in Utah this year. After getting married in July, me and my new wife got to spend four weekends tent camping in August and September scouting for my hunt. We saw a bunch of bucks, a few of which were pretty nice, but only one that I thought was a sure-thing shooter. I hunted that buck for the first three-and-a-half days of the hunt with no luck. On the afternoon of the fourth day, I decided to give that buck a break and look elsewhere for the evening. I came across this guy that night and couldn’t pass him up with my wife and dad there. He doesn’t score great, but he has a bunch of character and he got me into the 30” club.

2021 general season public land Utah buck. Didn’t think I’d hike 14 miles for a 2 point but he’s the biggest fork horn I’ve ever seen. I knew I wasn’t going to get any more hunting days this season so I put him down! He slid about 80 yards down the mtn.. made a good looking Halloween tubing hill.

We just finished an amazing hunt. My sister-in-law Ashley hunted 13 long days and passed up many great bucks. She is a mom of two young boys so it was extremely hard to juggle life and still devote so much time in the mountains and behind glass these last two weeks.
We first spotted this buck the evening before. We knew he was a monster but just couldn't really see him clear enough with the fading light so we left him and came back at first light. He was not in the same canyon the next morning and we had the sinking feeling. Then suddenly we respotted him two canyons over pushing does and rutting hard. We closed the distance from 1500 yards to 354 but the wind was howling and Ashley was not comfortable with the shot so she let this monarch take his does and walk over the top. My brother and I looked at each other in disbelief. So for the next few hours we tiptoed around the next canyon and up about a thousand feet until we could finally look down on the mahogany thicket that we assumed the buck had disappeared too. After sitting for hours glassing we finally caught movement and out came the giant. Unfortunately for Ashley she stands about 10 inches shorted then my brother and I so we can see a perfect broadside shot but all she could see was sagebrush. We quickly tried to readjust our position but the buck caught our movement and disappeared again and this time I thought it was for good. We were devastated and sat back down for another hour. We said a prayer and had just enough patience to catch him sneaking through the trees to the one tiny opening deep in the woods and stood perfectly broadside for just long enough for Ashley to make a fantastic 270 yard shot. He instantly dropped and never moved at all.
