Anybody had success in 081 archery/muzzy for deer yet?
Haven't seen much posted on outfitters pages/Facebook groups yet, this last time out I did talk to a guy who showed me a really nice double droptine buck he'd been chasing, everybody else was in the same boat as me.. slim pickens.

Not favorable conditions, but looks like snow is on the way soon in time for the rifle hunt.

I spent a few days out there the last several weeks, the weather has been entirely to nice. I am hoping that things change in the next week.

Got my fingers crossed?looks like some snow maybe on the 10th and then clear on the opener 11th, that's very long range in the forecast but let's just hope and pray.

The best buck that I saw was a long way off and did not hang around for me to get the spotter out, he was one that would take a second look to decide. Other than that it was just your typical 3x4 and 4x4.

Yeah, kinda same story here. Hopefully the snow and temps (temps for sure snow is not certain) will help get them more active.

Yup. Fingers crossed for some weather. Headed that way midweek week to look around for the rifle opener on the 11th. Hoping to chat with some successful smokepolers!

Friends kid got a decent one with youth tag during muzzy season last week

Been a really rough season for me, some nicer bucks in the scouting before the hunt.. had one of them that was near 170 at 70 yds archery and just didnt work out. but by the time the muzzy and rifle hunt came around they got the heck outa dodge. tagged out on this smaller buck earlier today on our last day. did not hear of anything over 170 being taken. i did see one buck on this last hunt nearing 185 ish. 190 if the tine length was there. he was the biggest and only buck i saw over 180. blessed to get this one down and all in all i had a great time on my last youth hunt, was a blast even being able to see that many deer and a buck that legitimately scores 180+ on a down year statewide.

Congrats. Nice buck. Nothing wrong with that. My sons last youth will be next year. He has 1 point as he didn’t draw this year. Considering this tag as his 1st choice. Can be a tough hunt. My nephew drew the Archery this year and had a pretty good time chasing bucks around. Too bad you didn’t have more time now that it’s starting to snow. Hopefully this snow starts moving elk out of Jarbidge for my late Spike tag. Been out 3 weekends and haven’t seen 1 elk. Back out again tomorrow but no clue where I’m going. Lol! Congrats again. Sounds like you had a good time too!

Thank you sir, it was a fun hunt.. no doubt if had more time I could have maybe gotten that big guy down, those Elk should start moving down you would think. This last storm dumped in the higher elevations near 8-9"" in 081, and that's only around 8000ft, I would still choose this tag as my first choice even knowing it's not what it used to be, just too fun seeing that many deer.

any other updates on this hunt? We hunted it last year. Pretty cool area to hunt, just didnt see the monsters we were hoping for.

Hunted the first week. Member scouting tips and information was spot on. Saw at least 50 to 75 deer a day with many small 3 and 4 pointers daily. At least 10 to 15 a day. The first small snow storm did help. Kind of wished I was able to hang around for the second storm but it didn't turn out to be much of a storm I understand. Ended up taking the best and only good buck I saw on day 5. Decent buck, 23wx21h 4x4.

pics?

I liked his height. Like I said before, saw a lot deer but he was the best I saw in the first five days. Hopefully the end of the season was goodView attachment 64711View attachment 64712
That is a very cool buck though, tall and decent mass. He is craby in the fronts like the one we killed last year, and tall in the back like ours too. I have shared pics, but when I have a second, Ill share another to compare this gene.

great buck man, most of the bucks we saw were very similar decent backs with crab fronts. i almost shot one just like that opening day but held off. that one has great height though. I heard that the end of season was pretty rough still. most people killed in 18 mile. lots of young 4's and wacky 3's. one thing i will say is i did not lay eyes on a single buck in that unit this year with browtines. bigger then a bump to an inch.
