Hello fellow elk hunters. My 15 year old daughter was super lucky and won a hunt though the hunt Expo. This is her first Bull tag and we are super excited to be in the woods together chasing Elk. We have never been in the unit before and would love any advise or input for the Book Cliffs late Elk. Always willing to help with info, we have hunted Boulder and South West Desert Utah for elk and 4A and 6A in Arizona for elk as well. Thanks to all that respond.

I sent you a DM

My buddy had the tag I came along to help. We found nothing that was worthy of shooting. 1 was a maybe but gave us the slip but even at that he was wide but very crabby. All in all it was disappointing

Hey Denny. I was down there for 7 days on the south unit for deer with family. We saw 4 cow elk is all during that time down there. Most late bull hunts are tough just due to the time of year. I can tell you I've been all over the Book Cliffs over the years and I've seen bulls in every part. Cover country and use your glass. If its open, glass it. If its thick, glass it. If that gets old, hunt down the canyons off the south and southeast side. Good luck to you and please report back.!!

Wow!!! thank you all so much for your responses and input. We had an amazing hunt and we were able to enjoy all nine day of the season. It was defiantly tough to find the bulls, Neela was super fortunate to harvest a beautiful 4X4 on the morning of day nine, in the area of the Rat hole. this was her only opportunity, we did see some nice bulls at 2 1/2 miles on day 7. We could find spikes and cow's each morning. Neela made a beautiful one shot kill at 531 yards with her 6.5 prc. Thanks to all that offered help, Local game and fish warden's and biologist's. Also the members of this forum. The book Cliffs were a beautiful place to spend this time with my daughter' will post some pic's in a couple of days Thanks Again

Congrats to you both.!! You definitely did well. I have some family friends who are, what I would call, "serious elk hunters", who went into the Book Cliffs in 2019 for a Late hunt, and they never saw a bull... The place is just so big and there are so many canyons those bulls never leave for the winter.

That is very believable, thank you, we were fortunate and it definitely helped having the input from members.
