Hunter Ed Point

I took the new class for out of state residents to obtain the hunters education point. It sounds like the point will not show up on your portal account until after the next draw and your points are updated. Anyone else see things differently? Thanks

That's how it's always been. Although they/someone said, points would be updated within 2 weeks, that would require a daily update and I don't see that happening. Since the portal hasn't been connected to the draw database in the past, I don't think it's a current indication of your point status. You should be able to call licensing a week or so after the test and get your point status. I suspect they're getting calls every day.

I emailed them about this a week ago
they said if it doesn’t show after first of year
to get ahold of them.

I believe it said as long as you take the class 30 days prior to the deadline of the next draw (February 8,2022) then it should be in the system and used in that draw.

Thanks For letting me know. I just logged on to the website and my point shows up there now too. So they must’ve done an update which is awesome. Thanks everyone

What kind of fool would pay $300 , and do a 8 hour online class , just for a point?

mine showed up also on portal ?
The things we do for fun! ?
I flew to Vegas, got a rental and drove to Kingman, 2 nights lodging and meals, and sit in class 8 hours all for the blasted point.
Best weekend investment of time and money that I ever made ?

Talked my hunting partner into it. Took the wives to Vegas, rented a car and drive down for the class. Enjoyed Don, and even more meeting him in the field. A dozen elk, deer, and antelope tags later I'm glad we did!!!

The kind of fool who flew down 20 years ago to get the point. Love how they keep changing the rules. Point creep going to hurt with 20pts for 4+ years plus.

Anybody with 20 points most likely already had the HE point, and if they didn't they probably aren't interested enough to pay $300 for one.

So... the online class is not needed if a guy already flew to Las Vegas; rented a car and drove to Kingman, took the class, stayed in a motel for a night and then drove back to Vegas and flew home? I hope so! AZGFD likes to change things a lot. On the other hand, I would GLADLY give them another $300 if it meant I could draw a tag before I die!!

I must have misunderstood the email I got from AZGFD. I thought I could get another point ( I have 23 for deer) by taking this online class. Dang it

Sorry. Only one HE point to a customer. ;)

I never got mine as a form of personal protest.

Don't get impatient with the AZ portal and draw system. It takes months to update. Points go away. Then they come back. You'll see plenty of posts on here about "what happened to my points?...had to call the AZ G&F..."

And those of us that remember last year's elk draw, what a mess. Someone should have lost their job over that "upgrade."

Did you have to attend an in-person field day?

I recently completed the class for the hunters education point. I called AZGF and was told that they will be updating the portal by Friday January 7th. Was told that if my account is not updated by then that I should call back and they will take care of it.

i took the online course on Christmas Day and the bonus point is already in my portal account.

Glad I already drew my strip tag, so I don’t have to compete with all these new MAX point holders!!!

WOW! I'm surprised! AZ G&F must've fired the IT group that implemented the new portal system in early 2021, and hired one that got it right!

Sounds a bit like talk about apples and oranges here…
the “new course”, and it is new, is the Ethically Hunting Arizona Online Course and it is NOT part of Arizona Hunter Education and does not convey a Hunter Education Bonus Point. It does award a Permanent Bonus Point for draw applications but it isn’t Hunter Ed and doesn’t satisfy a Hunter Ed requirement in other states that require Hunter Ed for adults. AZ only requires Hunter Ed for youth aged 10 to 13 that are hoping to hunt Arizona’s designated big game animals.
The “new course” , (call it EHA) costs $300 for non-residents and $150 for AZ residents, the student must be 18 or older to complete it.

For those who do not want to pay those price tags, the existing AZ Hunter Education Course can be taken online for a nominal fee, and when coupled with a completed in person Field Day, earns the student a Permanent Hunter Education Bonus Point for use in the drawings. A person can only earn one or the other for a total of one education earned bonus point, not two Bonus Points.

The issue has been a lack of Field Days (almost exclusively due to Covid - 19 restrictions) since March 2020 for those who have completed the AZ Online Hunter Education Course. Our All-volunteer instructor teams have slowly been rolling out Streamlined Field Days with Covid protocols since last spring and will be increasing them in 2022. The team that operates in Region III in the TriState Colorado River valley
and Kingman/Golden Valley area will be holding monthly SLFDs beginning January 30th at the Tri-State Shooting Park in Fort Mohave, AZ, south of Bullhead City and across the river from Laughlin, NV. These courses are by invite only at the moment to facilitate getting the backlog of 13 & under youth students through the program. Open seats will be available in the final week prior to the event by adults who completed the Online Course.

Don Martin intends to offer the Nonresident Supplemental Course as soon as the Department green lights in-person classroom instruction again; we’re not there yet, possibly in late-March, however the current surge in Covid cases may impact that target date.

The “new Course” was created as a vehicle to allow folks to obtain an education bonus point without having to travel to Arizona to get it and…..to generate income through the sales of the course. It is working quite nicely on both points so far.

Hopefully this helps clear up the differences between the two education courses.

Who is "them" do you have a contact or email?

thank you
I called the main office number and they told me they had no way to tell you when it would appear and that as long as you finished it 30 days before the next draw deadline it would be in their system and you just had to trust that it was there. However, the point popped up on the account like 4 days after that so I didn't have to worry. I think it posted abiut 2 weeks after the course was done.
