300 PRC question

Not specifically that gun but I’ve had good results from browning’s over the years. The 1:8 twist should be solid for shooting the heavier bullets like the 225 eldm or 230 Berger. Only complaint I have on them is their factory triggers are garbage.

I have an x-bolt in a different caliber that shoots extremely well. I actually think the factory triggers are pretty good for a factory trigger. They brake super clean but are just heavier than you’ll want in a long range rifle. I replaced the spring in mine which cut the pull about in half and now I really like it. The 1:8 twist is great for heavy bullets also I have that on a difference 300 prc.

Yeah anything from 1:8 to 1:10 will work for most of the heavy for caliber options available. He specifically was asking about 1:8 though.

My point is that 98% of 30 cal bullets don't require an 8 twist, it's marketing hype and often counterproductive.

But the again starting to see some silly short barrels on rifles. Maybe that makes up for it?

I think some of the rifles chambered in 300 prc go that fast of a twist rate because of the options available now for 250+ grain bullets. I’ve shot 215’s and 225’s out of my 1:10 ultra mag without any issues but I’m not sure how it’d handle bullets heavier than that. From what I’ve seen 1:9 is probably the most popular option for a prc.

PRC and similar capacity cartridges have no business with 250's, to slow to gain any advantage.

At that point just buy a 338

The bullet doesn't care how long the barrel is, once again it's marketing hype.
I think kinda. The more rifling it’s contacts the more it stabilizes correct? So an 18” barrel with a 12 twist would be less rifling affecting a bullet then an 18” barrel with a 7 twist yes?

With PRC in the title of this thread I’m sure the OP is going to get way more replies and opinions than he ever imagined in this thread.

So you've got 40+ years of 800 yard one shot kills with 250 grain bullets in a 300 PRC? I would block me too if I were you.
