What magazine do you feel does the best job at rating and evaluating units?(terrain, access, ect...) I'm ready to burn points but wanting to find a place to start the process. Thanks and good luck to everyone in the draws this year.

Depends on how much free time you have, but the information is all there within the state websites, google, and searches on this and other forums. The easy button is Epic Outdoors and a few others. Get it narrowed down and ask questions from various sources to get an accurate answer. Do not rely on just on the mags as they tend to not stay up date on everything, even with good staff the information gets dated. Getting the first hand info can be tough and time consuming, I actually just spent 30 min with another member today discussing WY elk, and where I should burn my 12 pts. If your cashing in double digit points it is worth the time to do some solid homework, preferably while your at work on a Sunday.

I like the Eastman family but there odds have so many errors it is not funny - you can read about it here in several other threads. I have never found an issue with Huntin fool, and the emag subscription is very reasonably priced. I have done probably 30 western hunts for about a dozen species. I do not look at HF terain stuff etc much but I would say it is a good reference. There odds are error free from my experiance.

I get epic and hunting fool. I enjoy both but they generally only cover the trophy units. If you are looking for cow tags they are not much help, you need to learn to use the states websites to get the big picture.

Recently I picked up an old Sports Afield. I read a couple of articles written my actual outdoor writers. It was a flash back to before everything was social media. A reminder that Eastmans, Mule Crazy, etc. etc. are in also frontend social media. Entertaining at times sure...we love to see the big racks. But not real literature in an art form. Just another reminder that today we have traded that in for reality TV/YouTube and even reality Magazines.

Guys that read and believe in these things should also check out Lasso Guide and Oufitter Service (LGOS). The expectations on Mass and social media these days are why this sport is going downhill so fast…….I’ll bet there are many left frustrated at the end of the hunting season……..
