...burds (sic) for dinner last night. I hadn't cooked these in a couple years, so when El went to the store to pick up drug prescriptions, I had her buy a couple Cornish game hens. Used an all-purpose rub, plus other herbs to bake them in the oven along with some diced taters. Along with some slaw & string beans, they made for a tasty respite from the usual. I also finished off my 2nd doz. of raw clams.

Ready for the oven...

Looks delicious ODW. I’m gonna give you the raw clam eating award for the State of Arizona.........

My Achilles heel, so to speak. ;)

My bride does most of her shopping at Fry's; they do not have a fresh seafood counter. Sooo...whenever she heads to Safeway to take advantage of several sale items, I get her to treat me to the double dozen buy of clams. Problem is having to eat them all within a couple days, or they die & spoil. Thus, I now have to do without until her next visit to Safeway -- likely a week away.

And yes, the little burds turned out great. They were good for a "change of scenery."

I drove by a field full of Sand Hill Cranes this morning.......... I was thinking about your hens when I was watching them. Wonder if they taste similar???

Haven't the slightest; I've never eaten crane.

Now, here is a tip for thrifty shoppers: Watch out for smoke & mirrors.

Before El went to buy the burds, I checked both Fry's & Safeway for prices. Fry's was quite a bit cheaper for the same Tyson frozen hens. BUT...

They sell then both singly & in a double pack. Here are the actual listings from the web site. See if you notice anything goofy.

The two pack is more per hen but not much more when you figure the 2 pack is 48 oz and the singles are 22.08 oz.

It’s too close for me to chase but that’s why I’m always broke and you’re eating clams, shrimp, ribeyes, Prime Ribs, fresh corn, and homemade pepper corn out of food storage. Poor ways make poor folks.

I noticed the weight difference, but El said they looked identical in size. I just can't imagine Tyson is culling them that close for single/double packaging. And then I wonder if it includes the packaging weight since the double comes with a tray & the single didn't.

Forgot to mention...

No need to 'chase'; these were in the same store & frozen food counter.

Meatloaf tonight!

Thought about those the other day. Kids used to say we were having birdies!! They all weigh identical 'cause they inject a little water to even them out when freezing!!!

It’s all good ODW. Someday I’m gonna try one of those cranes. Just seems like the right thing to do.....?
I've never killed one either, despite being in the middle of thousands when I killed moose in BC. And now I think about it, how stupid that was since we had no decent food for two days.

That's funny. When I asked my bride to buy them, she reminded me of my name for them by asking me..."You want me to buy you those little f__cking birdies?"
