It's 2022 Time!

What's the rule on the license? If it expires before the draw app period ends you have to buy a new one? I tried to find it in the regs but must be blind or just missed it.

If it’s valid when you apply your good. If you do it correct, you’ll buy one every other year. Buy first one late in app period, buy apps early the second yr
That’s usually true but I think this year anyone buying a license will have to buy another in 2023. The application dates are set to change for 2023 if I understand correctly. I could be wrong but that was my understanding.
Good luck to everyone in the Draw. This is the year I hit a UT tag. I can feel it. ??

I’m still doing research…
Myself & a buddy average out with 4 points, but my nephew coming into the group with zero really changes the probability of drawing in the units that I would prefer to hunt.
I may just swing for the fences & hope that we draw something. Still undecided at this point.

I can understand the concept but hunting two or three tags at once seems to me to be a disaster in the making.

If you work it right you can have several hunts. And enjoy the experience when you don't have the pressure.

Understood… I’m really at the point in my hunting career where I just enjoy being out there with family and friends. I always have hundreds of laughs with my buddy Jim & my nephew is just getting started with hunting, so it’s fun to watch him learn & how excited he gets. Don’t get me wrong, I want to tag out if I can, but I would rather help my nephew & just enjoy the time out there with him.

Keep in mind for 2023

Changes to the big game application timeline in 2023 In response to public feedback, the DWR is planning to change the big game application timeline for 2023. The new timeline will address hunters’ concerns about applying for hunts without knowing exact permit quotas, and hunters will be able to evaluate the proposed big game permit quotas before the application period closes.

The timing and dates will look like this: •The application period will open for hunts, bonus points or preference points March 23-April 27. •Big game drawing results will be posted on May 31. •Points-only applications for big game will open later (during the antlerless application period in June).

Impacts of this change: •This will allow four weeks from the time the application closes to the drawing post date. •Hunters will have access to the proposed permit quota during the application period. •Hunters will be able to edit their applications during the entire application period.

These changes will apply to the 2023 application period and will be fully outlined in the 2023 Utah Big Game Application Guidebook.

I think I'll be hunting mule deer for real for the first time in 20 years or so. No matter how it turns out, I'm more stoked to be able to put in for elk again next year :)

Good luck to everyone on their adventures this year !!!

Cheers, Pete
