R2

I like Chag, but if wanna kill big deer, you gotta have a killer mindset. Hats off though to M very cool . He will kill big deer in the future.

I’m somewhat familiar with the guy since I hunt/shed hunt the same country as him and I tell you what, he puts in more time on the hill than anyone I’ve ever heard of!
This video he put up about this buck is a really cool thrilling video to watch and I highly recommend watching it! I feel pretty sad that he didn’t get this buck since I know how much work he put into getting him, and honestly the guy that did kill this buck didn’t really deserve the deer…at least not as much as chag did.

Riiight. Drink the kool aid. He doesn’t deserve that buck more than anyone else.

Posing with someone else’s buck from a hunt you had nothing to do with? Must be a Utah thing….

Chags a straight shooter who puts in the miles. I just hope R2 doesn’t get on the same hashed out trajectory as that overplayed , over hyped gut shot Fire Bull that’s been pimped, Paraded for years and just won’t go away.
I’d be impossible for that buck to get anywhere near the fire bull, mostly cause the guy that shot him is not a very well know guy (James Yates) and it also seems that nobody really likes giant Muleys much, at least not near as much as elk.

I agree it’s impossible. good on yatesinthebackcountry on 1. killing a legend big buck but 2. also not slapping an R2 logo on to every airfrshener and oven mitts, t shirt, hoody, urinal cookie at every truck stop north of the Pahvant like the old gut shot wonder flamed out fire bull.

So Luke, how do you know this guy didn't deserve it? ha ha such a participation trophy mentality. He made some big assumptions in that video that are simply not true. It's obviously his story, but there is always another side.

He didn’t deserve it because he didn’t whore out the whole story and posts every single hike he does on social media. Also he doesn’t have his own cool logo. Come on man! Clearly “Chang” deserved it more!

It is really amazing that he watched this deer every day including the day it was born. I really like to hunt but things like work, family, church, volunteering, owning a home, etc. get in the way of watching a deer every waking hour of the day. Life will pass you by if you are that obsessed with a deer and then toss in the social media stuff is it really worth it? Great deer and beautiful country.

It’s just my opinion and I personally would have really liked to see him get a trophy like this one!
But in all seriousness he does put more time up on the mountain than anyone I ever heard of, I mean it seems like his truck is somehow at the trailhead every time I hunt in the area!
Also the guy that did kill this buck has always came off as a douchebag that’s out for nobody’s gain but himself. But I guess the nice guy never gets the hot chicks and in this situation big bucks.

Then those 2 hunters should hang out. That video is one of the douche-iest ones I have seen. 42 mins to whine about getting out hunted is silly. And then posing the entire time with someone else’s trophy is incredible. Still can’t believe I watched the whole thing.

It’s not that deep… for me the video was about the life of an amazing deer and how he grew throughout his years, there was some amazing footage of the buck in the video that any Muley fanatic should love to see. I guess it’s cause I’m more fascinated about big bucks than the people hunting them. I couldn’t care less who killed the deer, whos taking pictures with the deer, or who deserved it more. I care about the deer itself. What’s odd too me how some guys just look past the intriguing life of such an amazing creature, and are just completely obsessed with the people hunting them and so worried about their social lives, their job and what their wearing, pretty weird…

I guess I think differently than y’all.

Just making sure you guys know, that buck was a wasatch front extended archery buck…
Probably a no $&!t Sherlock moment but its not like this was a region g buck or somewhere like that.
Personally I know that i have a %99.9 chance of never killing a buck that big in my life time so getting a pic with a buck that big probably ain’t a bad idea.

I don’t give a flying F**K if that’s the BRODER buck my fat ass is not even remotely behind them antlers… no way no how…!

Watched the video. Great footage of a buck that grew up to its potential with antler growth. I would have never guessed an average buck like he was in his early years would sprout into that type of head gear the year he was shot.

Beyond that, I don’t care for who he or the dude that shot the buck is. Don’t care about peoples push to make a name for themselves using wildlife to get there. Don’t care where he hunts. Don’t care what he does so long as he keeps doing it legally.

Congrats to the buck for getting that big on the front.

For reference, the guy in the video is Martin and the guy that killed the buck is James.
I don't know anything about these guys and have never heard of them before this video.
After watching the video, here's my take.
Both hunters come across very selfish and not willing to work with each other.
But in the video, Martin says that as he passed by James's blind, James tried to wave Martin over and talk but Martin decided not to and went after the buck instead.
IMHO, this video has several things going on that are bad for the sport. Like excessive trail cam use, baiting, pushing bucks in very deep snow when they are weak and trying to mess up another hunters hunt, which is illegal. Martin even admitted on film that in hindsight, he wishes he has gone in on the buck before James could get a shot, even if he blew the buck out of the country.
I liked the live buck footage but hated the way these guys acted towards each other.

So Martin finds the big buck predecessor to R2. Martin posts a little too much info on social media. James uses the posted information to find the honey hole location of the predecessor buck and kills it.
A few years down the road, R2 is now the latest and greatest buck for Martin. But wait, it is in the same honey hole and James already knows this location and now hunts it also. James ends up killing R2.
Martin is attached enough to this buck's story that he pays a load of money to make antler replicas. After all, Martin did have one side of a shed after all theses years watching the buck.

So:
Martin lost 2 giant bucks because of social media.
The location is obviously a great spot for bucks.
James the buck slayer knows the area from the first social media leak.
Because of the details in this video, the honey hole will now be known by a lot more people.

I can tell he learned his lesson, last season chag found this buck last season in a different area and I didn’t hear a thing about this buck until he was dead, granted his buddy Devin was the one that ended up with him.

Agreed-the whole thing doesn’t compute for me. Posing for trophy photos with someone else’s animal AND getting replicas made of the antlers just seems so odd to me, but I do wear a curved brim so…???
Ha Ha! I guess you've never been into kissing the Homecoming Queen after the King had his fill. In all seriousness, I couldn't agree more with your comment, well done, curved brim!

Yup, like and subscribe so you too can get in on the armchair scouting for this years big buck.

Martin will do all the work, you just need to watch for his rig up the canyon, then watch his vids, then match up the terrain on Google Earth and you too could win a free chance to compete with Martin for the next big Wasatch front non-typical….

Never understood why folks would attempt to make a living off something that should be considered sacred ground and information not suitable for any eyes or ears except he who puts in the work to locate such giants…

Oh well…maybe a few more mistakes with surrendered giants will cure him of his current inability to keep his efforts to himself.

It would be cheaper and less frustrating for him if he bought a lifted diesel to overcome his little d syndrome.

lmmfao......

Such a weird series of events with this deer. I watched the video and obviously heard Martin's side of the story, and then listened to a podcast with the hunter that actually killed the buck.

To me, both guys had been chasing/watching/scouting this particular buck for multiple years. Sounds like both hunters agreed that they each screwed up the other guy in different situations at some point on stalks.

I personally love videos with stories on individual bucks like that, I thinks its so cool. To me, they both put in countless hours of work for this deer but at the end of the day, only one guy can send the arrow that kills the buck. Just the way things work.

Martin has a YouTube channel with 30K subscribers. He has to create content to keep people interested. I think that's most of it.

The only person who would spot for a week for me would be my dad, and only if mom made him.

Let me know when and where and I’ll be there, I just like hunting, wether it’s my tag or somebody else’s, I guess that’s just me ?‍♂️

SS, That’s a helluva Haul, I sure hope you had some MTormon ops supplements to power through until you reached the unspecified trail head that may or not be mention in the E-book.

think ill give this shed hunting book writing a try. here goes

look at ground. see horn. pick up

look at ground. do not see horn. continue looking at ground until horn is seen. pick up

repeat

where do i sign up for a youtube channel?
