Hit the Lottery and Drew 2C Archery!!

Well the tag gods shined down and I finally pulled the 2C archery hunt out of the random pool. Not here asking for honey holes or spots but would love to see some pics of 2C bucks to hold me over until January. Congrats to all that drew a tag and good luck to those that are still waiting for results.

Congrats. I hunted it in January this year. It was pretty tough but hopefully you'll get some better moisture for antler growth this year. If you want to PM me I can give you some info on where I found deer.

awesome tag! but all tags in New Mexico are in the random pool.

Congrats !!! One of my longest friends since I was a kid drew that hunt last year , he and his 2 friends went 3-3 . He shot a big heavy old 3x3 , tho he did see a couple really good bucks. 2C is just one of those units that holds big deer every year , its just a matter of spending enough time(day 10 last tag punched) and finding them. Words of advice , have a great land app as there is Navajo Nation checker board mixed with a bit of private land , and make sure you have good tires , chains and shovel. I actually carry 3 ft cut planks to assist in getting unstuck if that dirt has moisture it can be a bit sticky...

Congratulations on arguably the best archery tag in the state. I've spent a little time in the unit while helping a friend but don't have any great advice to offer but be willing to cover lots of country driving and glassing. I hope you find some big bucks to stalk.

Thank you. Ya I just meant I drew it out of the non resident regular pool not the guided pool.

Thats awesome! To go 3 for 3 with archery is a dang good week! I appreciate the advice and will defiantly take note of it! Thanks again and good luck to you this year!

I see. gonna be a super fun hunt. just be prepared for weather and bad roads and you should be fine. cover the numbers and look at as many deer as possible and you'll turn up something nice.

BUGLEnmIN we didn't see a true big deer. Biggest deer we saw was a 170-175 typical. Nice buck don't get me wrong but I thought we would turn up at least one buck over 180. Just wasn't the case and that's how it goes. The average buck we say were 150-160 type deer.

I heard the same story from my buddy that was down there. What’s your take on why that is? For years I thought 2c was supposed to be the cream of the crop for 180+ bucks. I could have just been mistaken but just wanted your take since you had boots on the ground.

A lot of guys don't realize how big a true 180 buck is. They are even getting harder to turn up on our side of the border. Southwest Colorado had a huge winter in 17/18 and I think we are missing a big age class of bucks with that potential. Saw a few up and comers this year if they can keep growing.

I dont ever want to put in for any 2 units again 4 days and one mature buck of hunting sun up to sun down with the best outfitter in that area , not only no but f no!
