So how many people are going to wait until the last minute to apply and crash the system? so CDW can extend the date??

This will add thousands of applicants, cause more point creep and ruining everyone’s draw odds!! only so called good outcome is padding the pockets of CDW imo.

They will probably extend it again and so will Idaho, you know it’s just not fair for people to have to rush the last day and figure everything out.

Does colorado allow for preference point only purchase at a later date? If not it should, that would take a bunch of pressure off the system. Just allow PP to be purchased starting 4/6. Wyoming does this and seems to help.

Should just have ONE DAY for everybody to apply. If it crashes on that day, too bad, those who make it make it right. Why have any deadlines!
Wait this already happens, Idaho on Dec 1, for the good tags anyway last three years.

Last year I had not one but two friends that should not have been able to apply because they procrastinated so bad. These are also the same guys that hit it hard for maybe 3 or 4 days then they are about done, lol.

If people try to apply within the dates and times specified by the DOW, and their system goes down, why penalize the people?
People know the dates when they can apply. If they wait until the LAST day to apply and crash the system, then that's on them. They are all adults and know that they can take the 10 mins it takes to apply for tags BEFORE the last day. It's not hard to follow the guidelines the DOW has set up for their application dates.

I like to pick my top 2 choices and switch them right at the deadline. That way fate determines which one becomes my first choice.

Is it the people who wait to blame or the antiquated system that seems to crash frequently and cause so much disdain.

DOW (as far as I am aware) has worked on their website many times to try and prevent this issue from happening. But every year more and more people seem to wait till the last minute to apply for tags, collapsing the website.

I have never had a single issue with the website because I don't wait until the last day to apply.

I think I read where the major issue was extending the deadline for like two weeks which lead some to believe that this causes additional people to apply thus lowering draw odds. I reckon it’s still a better system than waiting on snail mail. Good luck to you.

They are following the guidelines set up, even on the last day. How are they not following the guidelines? If the system crashes it's on the IT department, not on applicants.

I agree but don’t extend it 1-2 weeks but maybe only extend it a few hrs or for the amount of time That the system was down or no more than a day! IMO

I agree that DOW should not have given them several more days to apply last year and I was not happy about it. Turned out my 14 points wasn't near enough, so it probably didn't affect me.

DOW has urged people not to wait till the last minute to apply. People know that the website is prone to crashing on the last day due to an over load of people who wait till.....THE LAST DAY. Don't wait till the last day....you don't have the crash, nor do you have to worry about it.

So, the DOW admits their system sucks and you blame applicants and not the DOW. Got it.

I blame applicants for waiting till the last minute when THEY KNOW the website typically crashes. If you know there's a high chance of it, then it's on the applicants for not doing it sooner.

After how many years of the same problem, yeah its their fault for not learning.

The rules are the rules, they need to change the rules or fix their system. People wait until the last minute for a number of reasons. Work issues, deployment returns, money, sickness and on and on. I get excited and get all my applications in early. I feel your frustration in all this mess but I won’t blame people who abide by the rules and laws.

Everyone knows it’s the first Tuesday of April every year so you can’t tell me they are unprepared!
People have a whole year to be ready ?
People can be ready on the last day and still comply with the rules. Not everybody shoots a deer on the first day or gets to be the first standing in line at the movie theatre. Blame the system, not the hunter.

Mmm no....it's their fault for waiting till the last minute, knowing the website normally crashes

“normally crashes” Then it doesn’t crash all the time? So those who don’t crash it on the last day are ok? Nope, we should applaud people for for playing by the rules, there are too many out there who don’t. Fix the system not the people, it’s only going to get worse.

Its not the people's fault if the system isn't able to handle the load. Many people wait until the last day or two for many reasons:
Waiting to see results in other states.
Maybe they are waiting for other family or work plans to get finalized to know what season to apply for.
Maybe they are waiting as late as possible to see what the moisture conditions are looking like for different areas they are considering.
Maybe they are short on cash and have other items that need to get paid for first.

The state should use the money that they take from each applicant (required purchase of a hunting license and application fee) and upgrade their system! After all, isn't that the whole point of charging a "fee" to apply - to pay for the cost of running/conducting a draw?

I will apply last minute for MT sheep & goats due 5/1 because I will be waiting for NM results to come out 4/27. I will apply last minute for NV due 5/10 because I will be waiting for WY elk results to come out 5/5. I will apply last minute for SD elk/goat/sheep due 5/18 because I will be waiting for MT sheep and goat results to come out 5/11. Does that make me stupid and to blame if a system crashes? Why would I want to apply for a once in a lifetime type tag if I get lucky and draw a great tag elsewhere that has a conflicting season? And this is not jut me. I have three adult sons who are also applying in these same states.

They have ”re-designed the system” at least a half dozen times that I can remember. I vote they stop fixing it continuously.

Wyoming elk results aren't posted until June 16...no reason to wait to apply in Nevada.

Actually we are both wrong. I meant Wyoming "sheep" results out 5/5. (Wyoming elk results are 5/19 for NR's. It is 6/16 only if you are a Res) Regardless, I'm still gonna hold out submitting NV until the last day or two waiting for the "sheep" results due out on 5/5 and just in case WY "elk" results happen to come out early. My sons and I apply for 187 tags each year so I keep a spreadsheet with all the submission dates, results dates, number of preference points, our guaranteed tags, etc. But I think you get my point - why submit early and chance drawing tags with conflicting dates, when you can wait a few days and avoid a conflict.

It’s an irrelevant point. People are going to apply when they want and they will all apply before the deadline even if it is extended. The rules are the rules and everybody who applies on time abides by those rules. Who am I to tell other people when to spend their hard earned money….
