I am fine with changing it to open sights or 1x scopes only. I have never used a scope on my muzzy hunts, but my eyes are not able to focus on the front sight any more, so a 1x scope would help me a bunch

Well tx!

You Must Not Know much about 1X Scopes!

They are GARBAGE!

The Average Human Eye is about 1.5 Power!

When You Raise Your SmokePole with that POS 1X Scope the Distance will be further Out than just Looking with your Eye!

Everybody Jumped Up & Down When They First Let You Put 1X Scopes on your Smoker!

A Bunch of People Didn't Use That Round Thang Atop Their Shoulders!

One advantage You'll Have Though is You Will Be able to see your Front Sight through your POS 1X Scope!:D:D:D

Actually I do, I have a 1X that appears the same looking side by side with my eye. Just now looked at a telephone pole about 75 yards away with lower half thru the scope and upper with naked eye. Couldn’t tell any difference in size. BUT everything I look at thru the scope was CLEAR. With naked eye, not so much

I will take my 1X scope over open sights any day!! I wish Colorado would change and allow 1X scopes. You can still shoot with open sights if you want to. ?

To be clear, of course magnifying scopes are better, but if they are going to restrict them, I would rather they allowed open sights OR 1x

And I don’t shoot at critters with a smokepole past 200 yards. Got a 270 and 7 mm mag for that. Up to 200 yards, my scope will do just fine.

200 yds is a long way for open sights.

You are right there. The longest 2 shots I have ever taken with open sights were at 120 ( cow elk, killed her) and 150 (mule deer buck, shot OVER him!). 150 has been my absolute limit with open sights. With the mule deer I was prone with my pack as a rest and still missed him. Was perfectly aligned, but just over his back.

I think with practice and my 1X 1MOA scope, I could stretch that a bit.

For some people it’s possible to shoot farther with open sights. Marley, poster on MM, has killed an elk in CO with open sights I believe at about 270 yards using an adjustable rear peep. Way beyond my ability/ comfort range.

All 1X scopes must not be equal. Mine is a Vortex and dang if I can tell the difference between my eye and the scope. The other reason I know it is pretty close is that I can shoot it with both eyes open and there doesn’t seem to be any difference between my right and left eye.

Heck, all binocs are not equal. Ever compared 2 different 10x binocs from different companies side by side? There is a noticeable difference sometimes in magnification between the 2

Not for me! ?

The issue with open sights is you cover up the animal with holdover. With the scope, you can still see it for the holdover "misjudgment" ?

A proposal is a long drawn out process with public hearings and such, it can remain a proposal for two years and even longer if necessary. Only an emergency rule would be acted upon and implemented this year. I don’t see the removal of scopes on muzzleloaders an emergency.
