Horn Hunting May 1st

Wut?! Come on man, no one has been out looking! All the rule followers in co have been patiently waiting till the clock strikes midnight tonight haha

How Bout The JOKER They Caught a few Years ago in Jackson at the Crack of Daylight that Had More Tine Than He Could Tote?

How Bout The JOKER They Caught Opening Morning That looked Like CHEECH & CHONG when They knocked on His Camper Door?
(((Possibly SMACKDADDY?)))

Or How Bout The 2 Horses That Took off & Immediately Had a Wreck right out of the Gates?

I Think I'll Just Sit Back & Watch!

I thought wyoming was a noon start time now? Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought I heard that.

Years ago, I did an antelope island shed hunt. We went up early and had a spot in line near the front of the pack. There was a minivan ahead of us that took off like he was in a drag race as soon as he had picked up his wrist bands from the causeway gate house. Half way across the causeway, red and blues turned on, pulling them over which immediately sent them back to the long line. We had no real plans on where to go other than pick a spot, park and start hiking. It was a foot race across the flat all across the island, but oddly no one was really near us. Except for this 1 minivan that came to a sliding stop behind us and people bailed out and were running like their lives depended on it. I was 3/4 of the way across the flat, almost to the beginning of the mountain when all of this happened. A guy mid 20s was running right for me, giving it everything he had and then some to catch me. Just before I entered the small patch of trees at the bottom of the draw, he caught me and passed me, by just feet. I thought it was odd to put in so much effort to be first into the draw, until I saw him emerge from the brush patch on the other side that is. Carrying a stack of big brown deer antlers in his arm, trying to get as much distance from me as possible. Of course I had some enthusiastic feedback for him given what I had just witnessed. Pictures and video were taken. He made a loop around to the next draw and then ran back to his van. I called and got the dwr involved, informed them of what I witnessed and said I would be willing to meet with an officer immediately. They said they would look into it and meet with the officer when I was done with my hike. Upon completing my hike that afternoon, I did just that. I had a collar I had found that I needed to return anyways. When I talked to the officer he said “yeah you’ll have that. It’s unfortunate people do that”….

I shiz you not, that’s all he said. He was much more concerned with a dead bison calf I mentioned finding in my walk than someone breaking the law. Pretty typical for utah officers. And people wonder why we have the poaching problem that we do.

We located a nice stash pile in a culvert pipe going under a road in march of 2011 in unit 102 in wyoming while coyote hunting. I bet that guy was mad when he was 13 antlers short of what he thought he’d be picking up on may 1 of that year. No, I didn’t take them home. But neither did he.

People suck. It’s to the point now where if you don’t cheat, you won’t find anything worth picking up. And when you try to report what you find to officers, your intentions of being on public land during the closed season is questioned more than the original crime you are reporting.

Keep your mouth shut and mind your own business is the best way to be. When you find a miracle or gift from God, relocate it to be appreciated at a more appropriate, or legal, time.

I really do not understand the madness.

I have a few shed antlers. I pick them up when I come across them.

They're cool, but I remember years ago here in the Dunphy hills by Beowawe, NV and people were literally gridding out the hills on a four wheeler for shed horns.

Do they actually go to a market?

What do you do with a truck load of horns?

I know a guy who was driving down a forest service road and found a shed laying in the middle of the road. This guy threw the shed down in the bushes so someone didn’t get a flat tire. He plans to go back this week to get it.

He said the the whole thing makes him feel dumber.?

I throw the sheds I find in the woodshed. I like deadheads better.

mevertsen....check the prices they sold for in the recent antler auction. Besides the money they sell for, I think some guys are just ate-up with antler fever.

Meh. Meh. Meh.

You ever watch a movie and been disappointed in it? Did you stop watching movies?

Ever heard of someone poaching a deer or elk out of season? Did you stop hunting cuz of it?

Every had a bad girlfriend or wife? Did you stop chasing ***** because of it?

Ever been out to eat and have a bad meal? Did you stop going out to eat?

If you’re going to let a few bad apples ruin something you love than you’re a sissy la la that should sell all their manly possessions, get a cat and go sit at home petting that cat. You should expect to get slapped while out in public. You’ll also likely have to watch it with the neighbor kids because kids can sense weakness and they are going to bully your cat loving ass. Take down all the mirrors and reflective surfaces in your house because you’re not going to be able to look at yourself.

Stop being a whiner and a quitter. Get out there.

If not go change the litter box you use with your cat.

Happy shed day…we had a fun morning ?

had big plans to take the dog out for a hike about 5 miles but had to work instead. probably would have only found boot tracks! maybe we will go look tomorrow for the decent brown 4 point deer shed he found about 2 months ago. i made him leave after letting him carry it around for awhile.

Today we hiked 21 miles around the circus that was Wyoming, we watch people literally walk through our camp, to say the least it was kinda ridiculous. At least we had fun and found a pretty good pile of decent horns with a few studs.
On a side note we witnessed a pretty crazy fiasco with a couple from Utah out hiking around marking sheds the day before, fish and game officer was called in and some tickets were issued.

You do realize you were part of the circus?

I guess yeah if we were to sell but I’m not that kinda guy, but I was trying to relate this to going to actual circus and actually enjoying it?
That’s cute! I remember when I didn’t have a big enough pile to have to sell any, I was 15. If you ever start finding a lot you be that “kinda guy”.

Hell I saw this brag post on the inter web the other day where these guys were bragging about their haul after the weekend:

3 guys and 13 sheds for a weekend? And two of those are so chaulky do they count? So 11 sheds between 3 guys in two days?

Those boys better never sell them because they are not finding much ???

You must be that “kinda guy” that doesn’t find much? ???
