CC hits

2 years ago I got hit on the 12th of May - hits started earlier last year around the 10th. I am guessing it will be sometime this week.

If things go as expected my brother's consecutive unsuccessful streak will extend to 114 in Utah. He should draw an elk tag in 5- 7 years. That is a lot more unsuccessful applications.

It is possible a non-resident starting with 0 points will never draw a tag in Utah. The number of point holders/applicants alone will make this a possibility, then toss in further reductions in the # of NR tags, severe drought reducing the number of animals, continued loss of habitat, populations growth, or more tags being taken for auctions.

Some of the good, not great, elk tags take 17-20 points today - by 2040 these tags will require 32-35 points. Someone starting today will build 18 points and point creep at this point may be 1+ per year.

Don't take any of this as complaining, it is simply interesting. I was very naive 16 years ago when we started applying - I thought point creep would be 1-3 points. Missed the mark on that one. When I started applying 15-16 years ago, the elk tag I wanted in CO took 7 points. By the time I draw it - 17-18 points.

The wildlife need your money so by all means keep applying but don't kid yourself about the likelihood of ever drawing a tag.

If everyone applying repeats what they did last year, I'm in draw level points for a nonresident Henry Mountains rifle buck of my choice tag. First time I have been excited about the Utah draw in a very long time! Hopefully elmore nonresidents at my points jumped to Pansagunt, Oak Creek or opted to do points only to wait out the drought:)

My Question and thought.

Does the Nevada group still contract to do the draw? My guess is employees rolled in today and started the Utah project. Run the programs today. I'm thinking verifications will be made Tue and the hits will start. Tue. evening or Wed.
Positive thoughts today!

I Think I was just screwed over...my card had a serious fraud alert today, and my bank closed it and is sending a new one. AGHHHHHH

Same thing happen to me, I called yesterday and they said you have a month to pay if successful and the card is declined and they make an attempt to get in touch with you.

Don't worry, it says that while the draw is in progress. You will have plenty of chances to give them another card. They will even try to call you several times if you don't get ahold of them first.----SS

Good Luck to all !!!
I just had a call from Utah game and fish. They were doing surveys on snipe and waterfowl hunting last year. I explained that we didn’t hunt there last year because we didn’t get a big game tag as a NR. He told me good luck because they were doing the draw as he was speaking to me. Looks like tomorrow morning will be the day according to him!! Good luck!!

Should of told him to put your name at the top of the list ?

Banks don’t close the account, they just give you a new card.
They didn’t close my bank account, they closed down that card and issued me a new one. So the card number I have in file has been shut down and charges can not be placed using it.

If you draw a tag, Utah will call you if your card declines to get a new valid card to use, so no worries.

This is one positive of Utah’s system over states like Arizona that just give you double birds if your card doesn’t work ?

26. Last year there were 2 who drew Henry buck with 26 nobody ahead or with them. 5 nonresidents in my pool of 25 last year. If nobody else jumps in, I'm in draw position with a real chance
I'm applied for that hunt with 26 points also. Fingers crossed. Good luck.

Download the app and set up charge alerts like yotebuster mentioned. My Cabela's card app texts me the charge before I sit back down in the driver's seat after pumping gas.
It’s not so fun at the gas station but super fun when you get one like this while at work!

Did that years ago. Just seems tag hits happen after most people already posted their success online. Maybe my name is just last in line????
As long as I get a tag I am happy.
Wish you all luck.

Hopefully you are joining us at the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society Rendezvous in Loveland Colo June 10&11. You can discuss specifics of your hunt with a bunch of folks who will be happy to provide helpful info.

We also host a sheep and goat hunter meet & Greet and orientation likely to be July 9 this year. No better fast track to planning your scouting than that event where we bring in guys and gals that have had your tag previously. Hit me up if interested.

You're going to wish you jumped to another unit besides the Henry's

If we switch to random draw it will magically fix population demands ?

So if it doesn't hit today, will it be next week? or tomorrow? checking this thread every 15 minutes.
Last year on MM, the 1st post of a CC hit happened on May 10th at 12:38pm. Then the avalanche began thru the afternoon and into the following day. Now May 10th was a Monday last year, so who knows. Could be this afternoon, or tomorrow. Better not be next week cuz my productivity has nosedived.

I talked with someone earlier this year about not having tag numbers set at the time you apply. It's a big deal if there's 1 or 2 tags in a hunt when you're on max points. Their response was next year they were going to wait till later when they had all the data to set quotas before the application process started. So next year probably apply later results about the same. Not sure why they have had the application period so early when they set quotas so late? It sucks to wait so long!!!!

That happened this year for desert sheep. The North SanRafael went from 5 permits down to 4. That means 2 max permits instead of 3. The South SR went from 8 to 12. That means 6 max permits instead of 4. That's a huge difference in the world of sheep applications.

yep-next year the Utah draw application period will be March 23rd to April 27th with results posting on May 31st.

This is a very good change and should have been done a long time ago, but it also might mean we don't get CC hits as early in May and have to actually wait until end of May to know Utah results (hope not but it is possible).

I know they started hitting cards just after noon on Mon, 5/10/21, but hasn't UDWR also chosen to hit cards after they left office in past years?

It will be disappointing if not a single person of power at UDWR could see the value in hitting cards prior to the 5/10, 11pm NDOW deadline. Even if that UDWR employee only did it for their own selfish reasons, it would show they can at least be smart about something well within their control.

Mule deer decline is largely mysterious to UDWR and they will continue to have many failures. Why not choose something like the western calendar and show customers you have the ability to understand and address complexity.

If I remember right I don’t think they hit cards for bear this year till the posted draw day. I’ve been wondering if they are going to wait till the 31st to hit cards and send emails. I hope not, I can’t wait that long. Haha!

Actually it’s Nevada that doesn’t want Utah results posted until after the Nevada application deadline.
Nevada is giving Utah some Bighorn sheep in trade for delaying the Utah draw results.

I didn’t bother applying in NV since I don’t want it to conflict with my UT tag I’m about to receive.

Just waiting to pay for it.

C’mon UT, don’t you like money???

I just attempted to update my CC info due to fraudulent transactions......the agent was unable to assist due to the draw having already started.

Good luck to all!!

Several guys have said the same thing the past few days. I think the draw has been done and it's just a matter of them hitting the go button for cc charges.

Maybe we all need to show more gratitude for the increased anticipation and excitement! First they cut more than half the tags in my area after I apply. Then, they drag their feet posting the results. I love the way this helps increase the suspense of the situation. Maybe this is planned by DWR to help us enjoy the spring more! Thanks, DWR! Man, the 3-4 guys who draw the Pine Valley archery deer tag this year are going to be way more pumped than in years past!

The problem is that we've been spoiled the last couple of years. I remember in the not-too-far past that I would typically receive my notification (CC charge or email) while I was at Fish Lake - and I always do Fish Lake Memorial Weekend. It's like when I give my employees their paychecks a day early once in a while - then they come to expect it and feel screwed when it doesn't happen every time. ?

If the bear draw was really that late, I wouldn't be surprised if the big game Draw will be also. I hate to say it. If the draw is done I don't see why they just don't release the CC hits. Nevada is done in a matter of days. Wyoming a couple weeks. They could do it in a matter of days, they just don't want to. Oh well, I will plan on the 31st.
